long long trip

Well I am on my way back from the quickest trip ever. My daughter and I left Corowa last Saturday Stayed Morgan Sat night Coober Pedy Sun night Alice Springs Mon night Renner Springs Roadhouse Tues night and she stayed Katherine Wed and I got on the ghan to come home now in Adelaide flying to Melbourne tomorrow. A short and sweet trip she has now started her job in kununurra and Im totally exhausted but loved it. It just re-inforces my belief in travelling around oz again. I have travelled 7000k and 1000k to go but worth every second. Enjoyed our stay at Renner Sprngs very friendly lot up there thanks Chris for the tip. Was wondering if any of you have favourite eating spots on the road as very hard to find decent roadhouses for a decent meal this time compared with 5 years ago everywhere was very ordinary. And Basil I didnt go all the way to kununurra with her in case there was towell washing involved in the new job. But I at least drove her to katherine she only had to drive 560k after that. I cant wait to get out there again and for the long term not just the quick trip. PS I dont advise the red seats on the ghan 1 night would be okay but two was too much get a sleeper and most of the views are at night and you cant see a thing. cheryl

I'm glad you enjoyed your quick trip. The trip from Katherine to Kununurra is a nice drive, especially now, while the rivers are still running, the cane grass is still standing tall, and everything is starting to flower at the end of the wet season.
I did the Ghan in 2002, but had a sleeper. It's not a glamorous trip unless you do it first class with all the trimmings.
It's just one of the classic train trips, and I think they're still using the old rail cars.
I've also done a quick trip around Oz, in 25 days. It's a good chance to check out the country you want to check out in the future, at a much slower rate.
I'm hoping to go down the middle when I get out of Cairns.
The roadhouses which cater to truckies, are the ones you get a good feed at, with or without chips.
Happy travels. Bring it on. Chris
