Hello everyone, I have been following your interesting posts for a while now but finally hubby and I are setting off in about 3 weeks or so, for our first long trip.

We live in Jindera NSW, a small town just outside of Albury and plan to head North for about two months...I am such a virgin at travelling I haven't even been to Queensland yet and we will have our small dog with us.

We have a old coaster converted into a motor home, have done a few short trips in it and is reasonable comfortable...tho not meant for entertaining lol.

We plan to use both off-road and camping grounds and would love any suggestions/ideas that you have to make our trip easier.

This trip we probably won't get too far inland as I want to see as much coastline as I can so would appreciate ideas where to go/stay with our dog. Plan to go past Brisbane but think 'right to the top' will be too far this time, cheers Sue & K

Welcome Sue and K.  If you plan on coming up the coast through NSW you just have to stop at Mollymook beach.  The carpark adjacent to the surf club is right on the beach and there are plenty of grassed areas for the "little bloke" to have a run.  There are showers and toilets at the rear of the club although no power.   If you do decide to stop over here send me a PM and I'll give you my phone number so we can catch up for a coffee or something a little bit different.  I am only five mintues away from the beach.   I'm sure you will love the trip.  Guru and I haven't done many trips as yet, but the bug has bitten and I can't wait for the next jaunt.

Hi Sue and K
welcome from us as well. Being fairly new to caravanning ourselves, my suggestion would be to leave your front gate, point the coaster north and stop when and where and for how long you want. If you make it to the top, thats great. If you only make it halfway, then thats great. Means another trip,another day. The travelling with pets section of this forum has many suggestions for pet friendly areas.
Remember to take your time and 'smell the roses'

Hi Sue, we have travelled up the coast several times with our dog and I can recommend these 3 sites.
Hallidays Point near Forcester Tuncurry
Lorikeet C.P. at Arawarra
Top Tourist at Tin Can Bay
These are all near the beach and are dog friendly. Sorry I cant help with free sites as we always use parks. Hope this helps Keithawwawwaww

Hi Sue & K,

I'll leave the tips to the "wise people from the East" as they know best about the Eastern seaboard.

However, if you haven't already done so, get hold of Camps 5 from a newsagent, book shop, motoring organisation, etc, or order online at; http://www.campsaustraliawide.com/  

Also get a caravanning & camping guide from the NRMA this will show all the caravan parks and whether or not you can have pets there etc.

Camping stores should also have Camps 5 and other booklets on travelling with pets etc.

I think Toyota Coasters are great, having done a trip in one myself. Love your "Maxine" avatar, she's my favorite cartoon character.

Hi Sue, you'll have a ball and there are heaps of spots to camp with the dog in NSW. If you make it to the Mid North Coast, Corindi Beach is dog friendly and it's just north of Coffs Harbour. As the others have said, a copy of Camps Australia is a must as is shows many free site to stay with the furr kids.

We're taking the "kids" to Corindi in July, fishings good this time of year...

Welcome Sue and K.Having just completed a bloody great trip with our Staffie I have to endorse the suggestions re Camps 5.We had no idea about the free or small fee camping areas that are available.I learnt that the best way to read Camps 5 was to glance and plan at breakfast time,a bit hard to take in the directions at 90/100 kph.Northaven,Moonie beach,are both dog happy places.Good luck on your travels.Cheers.Ibbo.smile

Pat ..... I was there yesterday and it was just beautiful.  Dogs must be on a leash though, not that anyone took any notice of that little sign, myself included, I didnt see it until I was walking back to my van.

Sue & K .... Most Caravan Parks in Nambucca Heads allow dogs.
