Mick is home from Bundaberg and on his way, between gympie and Brisbane he counted 124 caravans, campers and motorhomes heading north. It just made us stop to think how many of us like minded people there are out there. And I must admit, a tinge of jelousy that we are not able to join them yet! But our turn will come and we will be one of the merry band of travellers

Just back from a week in Carnarvon WA, which was good, but FREEZING. Interesting place, but the last location at which I expected to be bloody cold! Very clear weather, which is more than I can say for soggy Perth this afternoon. Absolutely horrible torrential rain storm at one stage. Me with van on back of Magna SW at 100kph, a three-trailer road train right off the back of the van's bumper and van's left turn indicator not working. (Thanks Jayco). Could not see past the end of the bonnet, and dropped back to 50kph and braced for nasty noises, but mercifully nothing happened and everyone slowed down. Finally got home safely for a VERY large Scotch. I had meant to count the number of vans/motorhomes heading north, but very soon ran out of fingers. VERY, VERY many! Cheers, Tony

You southerners may be relieved to learn the tourist traffic is slow up here in Cairns. The park I'm in was chockablock last year at the same time, but it's only about half full now. The traffic is dribbling in instead of pouring in. The Cape travellers still seem to be keen although it may also be a bit quieter this year. I have heard the same for Broome/Cable Beach. I guess, for every site not occupied by the annual winter set, there will be 3 vans trying to get in. Some blame the financial crisis while others blame the swine flu. I'd say it was more financial than piggy, unless it's the piggy bank. It's all cyclic. Cheers Chris.
