Suggestion needed

Hi all, hubby and I are heading off from Jindera (near Albury) in a few weeks and as we have many last minute bills to pay we can afford yet to buy the latest camping books.

As it will still be cold we are looking for a pet friendly, powered park somewhere around the Bathurst area (doesn't have to be Bathurst) for our first overnite stop.
Unfort. all the parks in that area that I looked at online... say 'no dogs' :(

Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted, Sue & K

hi Sue & K
can't quickly find any at Bathurst, but Orange is only 30 minutes further.
Try Canobolas c/van park. 166 Bathurst rd Orange ph63627279 conditions apply. Usually means that you pick up after them and keep on a lead. This is from the 2006 tourist park guide, you may have to phone and check.

Bathurst actually has only 1 caravan park, and as you've learned, it's not dog fiendly. There my be some home stay opportunities which are dog friendly. When the big race is on there are several private properties up on "the Mountain" which accommodate campers and vanners. They may take campers other times of the year.
God it's a cold place! Orange is even colder, but if that's where you want to go, stay warm and take the uggies.
There are 2 free camps between Bathurst and Orange, but no power.
The Rocks: 20kms west of Bathurst, 34kms SE of Orange, on the highway. It's dog friendly, has toilets, water, shade, big rig space and mobile service.
Macquarie Woods: 28Kms west of Bathurst, 26kms SE Orange, 2 kms north of highway on dirt road. It's also dog friendly, toilets, water, shade, big rig space and mobile service.
All this info from the Camps 4.
Now you have to make a choice. That's a great way to spoil a trip. Have a good, safe one. Chris

yoGranny, its not that we want to particularly to stay in Bathurst etc but we are heading for the coast (above Sydney) and need somewhere to break up the trip.  Need a powered site as I know we'll need the heater the first nite !

Thank u to those who have already made suggestions, Sue & K

Hi Sue & K,
Have you looked at showgrounds in the area, they have power and are pet friendly just need to check and see if they allow camping. Some do and some don't

Sue
There is a place right in the heart of Bathurst, dog friendly and power. I think it is the showgrounds, but if you can wait on, Monica has all the details.

She is travelling at the moment, and I will ask her to reply to you as soon as she can. May take a couple of days to drag her away from the steering wheel.

Hi Sue and Hubby,

Well I'm finally home and out from under the steering wheel, but will be back there again next week.

As for camping in Bathurst, yes it is the showground, they have only 4 sites and last year when I stayed there it was $22 a night and damn cold,  that is the only reason why I stayed there so I could put the heater on.  I have since stocked up on doonas and warm blankets as I prefer to free camp.  The two nights I stayed there, the guy didnt bother to come around and collect the money.  I was told he would be there about 7pm, he never arrived.  I waited till 10 am then next day and went and seen the gate keeper, she said he would call around that night, again he did not arrive.  Next morning, I went to give the money to the gate keeper but she said no  she couldnt take it as it had nothing to do with her.  So I end up not paying for two nights.  I felt a bit guilty about that but nothing I could do about it.

Hi Sue & K,
Check out any OP- SHOPS you come across. You can usually find one of the several books regarding Dog-friendly C-parks etc., for about $1.00. The Camps books all tell you which parks are Dog-friendly. Keep an eye out for one of those at the OP- SHOPS too. I picked mine [No.3 ] up for $2.50.
The Title of one of the little books, is Holidaying with Dogs, by Peter and Sandy Dennis.

Cheers,
xina.
