A frustrating Journey

Thought I'd share a little of our journey in getting our coaster registered. We couldn't find a automatic one in NSW but finally found one in Queensland (we need an auto as hubby only has one arm) and I am used to a auto too.

Apparently NSW had just bought in a new rule that motorhomes bought from interstate had to get a engineers cert. before being registered (cost $900). RTA gives us a list of engineers...closest one is 2 & half hours away. He demands endless paper from us ...which we had to ask the company in Queenland for - via nurmous emails.

After about 6 weeks he gave up...said he could find this plate or that paperwork etc etc and kept half the money. We then had to find another engineer- 2 hours away, he turned out to be very efficent but again we had 3 months of every nut and bolt being examined, heaps of paperwork and of course more money.

This post would turn into a book if I told you about every obstacle and frustrating turn (and we nearly got divorced half a dozen times over this) but finally a few weeks weeks ago we had the all important engineers cert. to get registered. Kersi was about to head of to the RTA when he realized that he couldn't find the receipt for the sale!

A email was quickly sent to the motorhome company to fax us down a copy of the sale, they did so but they forgot to sign it!  Another email /fax and hubby happily heads off the the RTA.

You guessed it...they wouldn't accept it as they wanted the faxed note to be sent direct to them....so another phone call/fax and we ring up the RTA an hour later to be told that it was unacceptable *groan* as it didn't have the 'vin' number!

Another phone call/fax and RTA tells us they are happy with the last faxed note and we can come in and get it registered..yippeee..we thought.

We thought the cost would be around $700 or so but we get in there and get told, as it was bought interstate. plus extra charges etc it would cost us $2,300 !

Needless to say I HATE the RTA lol, Sue

I reckon the RTA was commissioned just to make our lives miserable.  I can't think of anyone off the top of my head that hasn't had problems of one kind or another with the RTA. BIL moved up to Ulladulla from Melbourne, just a little Toyota Starlet, same experience, put the car over the pits but only at one of THEIR inspection stations, $534 later car registered.  MIL needs a disabled parking permit.  Fill out the forms, get Doc to do his bit, take to RTA, not acceptable because Doc didn't fill in as to whether she is capable of driving.  HEEELLLOOOOOO!!!! this lady is 88 years old, is legally blind, can't lift her arms above her waist how in blue blazes is she gonna drive a car.  I ASK YOU are these people complete morons or what.

Enough Ma, think of your blood pressure.

unfortunately sue your tale is to be told and retold all across this great nation of ours whilst ever we support and then rationalize the current structure of governmental d/heads

we have built and then condone and support a great pyramid of bureaucratic, pencil pushing, no life, needlnose deskjockeys whose sole purpose in life is to frustrate those that wish to get anything done

we have it marginally easier over here in south aust but I do say "marginally"

until we, as a nation, state that we are "as mad as hell and we ain't gonna take it no more" then this dribble will continue

Another example of why we desperately need nationwide legislation.

Current State rules are in prima facie breech of the Commonwealth of Australia constitution where it refers to interstate trade.
Transport is a national issue which should be administered at a national level.

Question: considering that almost everything that governments do affects practically everyone in every State in some way or another, wouldn't we all benefit from a single legislative body for the whole country?

Yay Rolly, my feelings exactly!
When I bought my van in NSW I towed it home to Broome, and to change the rego I had to have the "over the pit" inspection. There were 2 agents in town (lucky me) who were authorised to do it.
One didn't have time even if I towed the van to them. The other, usually the dearest agent, came out to the park, checked out the van and handed me the paperword for $120.
The registration of the van in NSW was extremely expensive, mostly 3rd party insurance, but a huge bite out of the budget. I'm still registered in WA, car and van.
Something tells me NSW is just plain greedy. Everything there from rego, annual vehicle inspections and all the related costs are soley for the purpose of revenue raising, and not to the advantage of the vehicle owner.
If there was to be a national system introduced now, i reckon they'd use the NSW model on which to base the nationl law because there's more money in it.
The poor consumer doesn't stand a chance.
Good work hanging in there Sue. I would have gone interstate if someone had mucked me around like that. Cheers Chris

The Daydreamer is already registered in Vic as a van, and have been told that when the conversion is finished I provide certificates for the wiring and plumbing and then pay around $200 for the years reg as a mobile home, $300 if it comes in at over the 12 tonne laden weight

Fighting sticks?? You bet..............The pen is mightier than the sword. So we will be equipped with ball point pens and if we run out of ink............we can always stab someone with the sharp end. Whaddya reckon Guys??

We have to recruit Basil and make him the leader of this and when we win...... Dave will be Prez. Then we'll get things staightened out.

It could be worse. I was in Singapore recently and commented on the fact that all the cars looked fairly new.
I was told that by government decree, when your car turns 10 years old, you HAVE to sell it and buy a new one. The government, apparently, gets a cut of the selling price, too.
Cheers, Tony
