TEMORA FLYING DAY

Anybody fancy a weekend in beautiful downtown Temora in September?

The Aviation Museum at Temora has just completed a three year restoration of the mighty Sabre airplane and it had it's first run today, 16/07

It's public debut will be Saturday 5th September.

I have no connection to the Museum but being the wife of an old Raffie, we attend the flying days as much as possible and apart from Guru enjoying his "fix" of aviation fuel we usually have a very good happy hour in the van park.

If you are booking to go to Temora for that weekend specify that you want the airport van park.  I believe that they are both run by the council.  Hope to see some of you there, we will be flying the grey ribbons and have the stickers on Fred and Freda.

The planes fly on both Saturday and Sunday and for anyone nostalgic about aviation I can thoroughly recommond a visit.

beeing a bit of a petrol head,  i think one of the greatest sounds i have heard,is the rolls royce merlin engine,in that spitfire they have at temora.          70 years old and still flying.       hope you have a good week-end ma

Thanks for that Last time I was out there the Sabre was just coming off the truck in bits.

If you go make sure the aircraft you want to see fly is actually programmed for the day . I know the pilot for Canberra only gets it out one day over the week end as they are a big aircraft to handle and it sucks your strength doing low level flying in the beast . .

Temora is a great spot to fill your lungs with aviation exhaust of all types.

They run a DAK out of Bankstown to Temora especially for the air display or should I say they did some time back , now that's worth the trip just to fly in a DAK .

Enjoy your day and post a pic of the Sabre when you can or PM to me

pm to you, B/S you post the mongrel or else,

the rolls Royce merlin stuck in the spitfire is the epitome of aircraft to me, such lines and symmetry

apparently they used the Merlin's in torpedo boats as well, we just happen to have a feller from port germein who used to salvage the things after they were scuttled, using nothing more than old empty fuel drums he would refloat the things and salvage what he could from them

he used to have two of the beautiful beasties on huge stands in his shed which he fires up "on request" from his mates, haven't seen him for a while but can only assume he's still there

what a sound

The old RAAF  Search and Rescue boats stationed at Townsville and Newcastle  were power by Merlins.  A couple of mates and I used the oil drum method to refloat a couple of boats in Darwin after a cyclone, all you do is fill them with water take them down to the wreck or whatever you want to lift,  once you have straps under it  attach the drums and pump air in to displace the water and up they come .  The up market model to this is airbags  but it is the same principal

yep not sure how they did it but sounds like it would work, he is certainly no rocket scientist, havent seen him for a while, wouldnt mind knowing what happened to the engines, stick one in the camper just for a couple more "giddyup's"
