I heard a radio interview today with one of the two Sydneysiders who crossed the Tasman from Oz to NZ in a double Kayak. What a feat and adventure, listening on how they answered the call of nature was humorous to say the least. See link below for some detail.
Well dear friends were about to cross the Ditch am tuesday. We are heading for the south island of NZ.10 days of just cruising and looking.I will try and supply a sensible story of our meanderings...................Thermal underwear, immersion suits, and a good supply of Pussers rum.Cheers.Ibbo.
Hope you have just the best time over in NZ. Stay safe and see you in Sept. Have a rum for us while you are freezing your proverbials off.
Cheers Guru and Ma

Sit back and enjoy Ibbo. My ex and I went over to spend Christmas and New Year with my inlaws (outlaws now) in '76, before you needed a passport to travel between the 2 countries. It was summer and the heat wave in Christchurch hit 22deg and I removed one jacket. After working in the tropics for the previous 9 months I even had to go out and buy real shoes. The kids when to Littleton Beach for a swim. Crazy! We drove around the South Island and camped in the car at Arrowtown. We put a can of Coke on the bonnet but it was too solid to drink in the morning. The North Island was much warmer and quite pleasant. We camped on the road side one night and the HR Holden and complained about being cold all night in spite of sleeping bags etc. At daylight when we looked around we were parked next to snow-covered Mt. Ruapaho. Brrrr! Great country, great scenery, great people. Pity about the climate. Cheers Chris
