Hi all. I'm new.

I've just found this forum. Am still learning how to opperate a computer.  Something I promised myself I would do when I retired. Well, I retired 3 years ago altho my husband is still working. Now I have the time to check with fellow grey nomads and would like to talk with any other mad fossickers . My husband and I love looking for the elusive gems and have spent many of our holidays chasing opal, [Lightening Ridge] zircon [Alice Springs] sapphires at Anakie.
Anyone else interested in that sort of thing?

Hi DellieMay, and a big welcome from us as well.
have a growing interest in fossicking since my last c/van trip. people we were tagging along with were last seen heading north waving their metal detector over their heads. havent seen them for a couple of months, so guess they would now be classified as 'mad fossickers'

Thanks for the welcome. Please be patient with me . I'm still learning about this computer, however I reckon "they" can teach monkeys tricks, so , I believe "they" can teach me how to use this.
kenmarg, I'm pretty proud to be a banana bender but must admit we just love the Territory.
dave 06, as yet we haven't gone south. That is on the to do list, when my husband retires.

Hi Del and welcome from us too.   We are from "down south" NSW that is.  probably the only "gems" you will find down here is us Grey Nomads, but hey who could wish for more.......Priceless...............or some might say worthless...........I think not.

You have come to the right place for any advice you may need, help with solving any problems that are within our capabilities and if we don't know there is always someone here to help you find out.

Enjoy your retirement and hopefully your bloke will retire soon and you can join the ranks of the forever young.

Cheers

Ma

Hi jandas, is that a coromal in the photo? We don't know too much about metal detecting, more into digging in the "wash".I bet the people heading north were fun. We have met some wonderful people on the fields. You don't have to work hard if you don't want to.The enjoyment is in the people we meet.

you will just have to pop into Ulladulla on your travels and see for yourself.  There is never a dull moment in our household, the permanent one and the one on wheels.

Thanks Ma. I think we will pop into Ulladulla. One question tho... where is it? Now I may sound ignorant, but in my defence, we know little of the south. I believe the winter colours are worth seeing, something we don't get here.
Hopefully, my husband will retire soon. He talks about it every week and we've had the van ready for a couple of years now,so the sooner the better.

Hi DellieMay,

Welcome to the site. I have fooled around (fossicked) at Oberon for gems, Sofala for gold and also near Mt Augustus..........plenty of exercise but not much else except a few bits here and there.

I am waiting for our main "miners" on the site to reply to your post, they are right into it and have their own claim. Enough said.........stand by for their post next time they are online.

Good luck,
Vic

Del, Ulladulla is on the south coast of NSW two hours south of Wollongong. Half way between Nowra and Batemans Bay.

Tell your other half not to muck around if you can afford for him to retire now, DO IT.

You just don't know what tomorrow brings.

Ma

And here's another welcome to you Delliemay.
Computers are simply a matter of "play time". Experiment and check it's capabilities - it won't explode or anything.
This site is extremely easy to navigate around.
The next thing you will need to do is navigate around Google Maps. It's ll there.
In the mean time, while you're waiting for your other half to retire, take short trips, a weekend, a week here and there to get a real feeling for this lifestyle. You'll never go back.
Cheers Chris

Welcome Delliemay,
We are also fossickers, and Nomads, have been doing it for 40 years, done the block a couple times, WA goldfields, Harts Range in the NT, Central goldfields in Vic, north to the Cape, and south to the bottom of Tassie, sold the house and settled in Qld, Been to Agate creek for the agate, Obriens creek for the Topaz, Chumley Park for the Peridot, Fullerton River for the Garnet, and Herberton for the Tin, And we are currently living on a claim in Sapphire, This is a great place to get all info you require on the art of traveling
The range of skills on this forum is quite astonishing, and you learn a lot from them all,
But why on earth does your hebby not want to retire,

Welcome from me too Delliemay. Planning to do some when I stop anywhere long enough, but haven't done that yet. Won't be too long I hope.

If you go to the Grey Nomads home page, and click on "Where to go", at the bottom of the next page, is a map of Australia, saying "Route Planner".
Click on the State you want, and you'll get the Travelmate page.
Click on the Maps box, and then type in the address you want to go to.
Cheers,
xina.

Hi all,
I,m reading all these messages with a small on my face.  What a lovely welcome from you all.  I'm so glad I found this forum.  It's really lovely talking with others who love the same thing we do.
My husband will be home tomorrow and I'm anxious to show him all of this.
We have a 17ft 6 off road coromal and drive a patrol, so can go almost anywhere we choose. At the moment my husband is talking about putting solar on the van . Anyone Know a lot about that? He knows a fair bit , but it's always good to share ideas.
