Dont normally play with the internet, but was wondering if an article I read on corrugations in the 60s was still current and came across this road report for the Barkly, Central, Katherine and top end , might be handy for some of you heading north
When driving on dusty and corrugated roads, please consider the people who are maybe living close to the road and have to tolerate the dust, Just check your mirror occasionally
I don't understand your reference to the 60's. The report was dated today. Looks pretty current to me. They've been upgrading and widening the Barkly since 2006. The new open-surface unsealed section was better than the goat track narrow bitumen with crusty broken edges. It's all about driving to the conditions at all times wherever you go. A lot of the roads unsealed in the 60's are all black top now. However, the consideration to be appliled on dirt roads still applies. If you're lucky you may be able to see any vehicles behind you, otherwise just be prepared for a dirty, dust blasting, stone throwing inconsiderate moron overtaking you without notice or warning. It can be scary stuff. Cheers Chris
