Hi All, I'm new to the forum, thank you Cindy for my email allowing me to participate here. On looking through this site I naturally was inquisitive with how many used it? To my amazement there are approx. 1180 Members- All GNs? Wow we are many a happy bunch aren't we. I did notice though that there are approx. 675 Members who have NEVER Posted on this Forum- Curious- Is it because you are not familar with how to use it, are you not computer literate enough, possibly need assistance? Or do you just like to read what others have to offer.? Just curious?
Another thing I noticed is - Not too many Members have filled in their Biography? Is this for the same reason, or maybe privacy? I myself like to let people know a little about myself and maybe at least - Where they come from or born or such?
Anyway I'm here to chat, and dream until August 2010 when we retire and join you all - Fulltime on the road. I have filled in my Biography for those who are interested- Maybe some of you Members might like to take a look at your details and update them and also maybe get on line and chat a bit- Come On I didn't think us GNs were backwards in Going Forward.

oh one other thing if I was born in 1948 (as in your biography) I would be a little older than 48 years

Thanks for the welcome dave06 Doesn't mean we are both 48 The 48 215 Series was only the original name of the first ever Holden built in Australia- Most people think it was called the FJ Holden But alas I know better that it was called the 48 - 215 Series Holden commonly known as FJ it was built in 1948 the same year both Greg & I was born. Get the picture now? Sorry for the long explanation- getting used to explaining in detail to GNs you know what I mean, no offence take I hope? Cheers Dawn
gotcha!! the 48-215 or "fx" as it was more commonly known was the predecessor of the "fj" a lot of people mistakenly think was australia's first car
it went on to the fb, fc, fe, ej, ek, eh, (first of the red motor), hr, hd, hq, ht, then I lost interest as they started to all look alike and i got a bit older
I had the eh with the 149 power plant, great car, my brother had the fe with the stroked and tricked 138 "grey" motor, my bil had the hr "x2" (186 with duel carbies) straight from the factory
later I had the tricked up lx torana (same as the "A9X")
keeping up with all the earlier models used to be a hobby of mine in my younger years, always been a holden fan

Now hang on there girl, I thought the FE came before the FJ, bought my son the FJ when he turned 15, best thing I ever did, now he knows more about the works than his driving, and is still alive and kicking today because of it
hi dawn & greg. welcome to the forum,from a tired and worn out retired interstate driver. its good to hear your coments,about the ammount of members that dont make any comments. your research into this was a bit of a eyeopener. i think that this happens when your have a forum that is open to anyone,to read.
Yeah U R correct "FX" not "FJ" you know old grey matter a bit rusty these days on where the thing started and ended! Greg & I used to restore old Holdens in our younger hey days when our limbs were much limber you know what I mean. Won peoples choice at the Summer Nats in ACT one year with our "Raven Lady" as it was called. Lived in ACT for thirteen very cold years back then. Cheers Dawn
.. and for Dave's benefit, I had a 64 eh (hearse) .. some vehicle that .. 179 donk with the 149 head .. beautiful ride too but I suppose no one complained .. it had the ej tail-lights on that version ..
a bygone era folks .. but then, we were there eh !
great car jon, the 149, 179 and 186 all shared the same head, the only change was when they went to the 202 with hydraulic lifters, up till then they were mechanical pushrod
I had the 202 in the torana, not a patch on a stroked 186s motor
sorry but I'm a die hard holden nut, I cried the day Brockie bit the tree!

Dawn, please allow me to add my welcome to all the other welcomes. I had an FC. The FE was before the FC. My next car was an AP5 Valiant, Torque Flite Auto with the push buttons on the right side of the dash. The last of the American Chryslers. We get distracted a lot on the forum. Currently in the midst of restoring an FX just completed the FE and before that an EJ If I keeping going I'll be back to restoring horse and buggy carriages . Not many of the old originals left that haven't been worked over of had such mods done that they are now hybrids. The car yard down the road just sold a HG ute in original condition that original that the no one had ever sat in the passengers seat and nothing ever been in the cargo hole either . Went for $13000.00 sight unseen, chap in Sydney saw it on the net and sent a truck up to get it along with the cash .

I'm relatively new to the forum too having recently "stumbled upon it" when looking for some information. I have found it to be a very friendly bunch of people who respect each others views even when not necessarily agreeing with them.
With all the identity theft occurring these days I'm very wary of making too much information publicly available on sites such as this, however when any member contacts me using the private message function I happily make available any info such as my name, contact details etc.
Hope you have a great time on here and get as much out of the forum as I have. There is a geat deal of wisdom on here as well as banter. You should enjoy.

First car I had was a grey EH panel van...non sincro gears 3 spead.column..like Davo...a 149 red.....I remember My Grand-father calling in home with a brand new HR...was metalic gold with a black vinyl roof...really kewl car...
Hi Dawn, Welcome to the forum from us as well,yes they are a great bunch of people on here and we have gained a lot of great information from them.We are currently on our big adventure around Australia and are really glad we have done it. Left Tassie on12th May and are in Casino New South Wales at this stage.Hubbie is into cars as well We have a 48 Bedford bus that we live in and also we have a 38 Chev.I would be rich if I could have had half the money that he has invested in cars 40 years of playing(boys and their toys) Never mind keeps him happy and off the streets.Look foward to your retirement as life is just so short,we have done it a little early but hopefully we can pick up a bit of work to pay the bills, Happy safe travels to all, Chris and Robbie
