OMG! No Signal

What's a girl to do? FIVE WHOLE DAYS without the internet! Tragic! Am in Carnarvon WA for a couple of days catching up before I head to the glorious internet-less centre again. I can do without most things...well..not the fags or grog.....and now this. After 15 years of being an "internet tragic" very uncivilsed. Maybe Telstra will sell me my very own NxtG tower to carry around.....ashamed

Welcome to country Aussie!!. Is it wonderful to not have what everyone else thinks is norm. NOT!

Try TV, or even radio - hey they do advertise that they reach 90% of the POPULATION, so there you have it, you are now only <10% on what most people believe is norm.

This is what country folk go on about, the lack of communication in this day and age.

Soap box out

Nah, who cares, country just provides the food.

Sorry to hear you're 'net stranded Sue. Where are you staying in Carnarvon?
I went to stay for a week in 07 but stayed for a month. Somehow I loved the place, but I can't remember why. Perhaps the wind blew my memories away. Check out the blow holes to the north - absolutely fabulous Quobba.
That "98%" Telstra brags about only applies to the populated coastal areas and cities.
Alice Springs and a few isolated major towns have net and mobile signal, but don't count on it. If you have mobile you should have mobile Next G internet as well, but once again, don't count on it. Stay safe. Oh, what happened to the bloke with the big 5th wheeler rig? Just being nosy. Cheers Chris

Hi Sue, we have just spent almost 3 weeks in Carnarvon and had absolutely no probs with internet. Have the Telstra Turbo 7 dongle. Now in Exmouth and have some problems during the heavy usuage time from about 6pm - 8pm but otherwise all good.

yep really need to stick to telstra, they sort of limit the output to other companys so they can keep the brag factor of reaching more people, telstra does not play nice with the other kiddies

it doesnt matter how far out you go, I go out to my other bosses farm (50 km's) south towards "the gap" and I have no signal with my telstra next "g" handset, the boss has all satelite gear

100 - 150 km's "inland" from civilisation anywhere and the signal cannot be relied upon

Hi Everyone. No problem with my nextg wireless internet card when there's a signal. Carnarvon is great. Will be here about a week checking it all out. They tell me 25ks either side there's nothing. And I have a penchant for being in places where there's nothing. A safe bet would be Gascoyne Junction won't have anything. Thanks Milo...not so serious.

Chris, left my man in Exmouth...will pm later....cheers all (happy hour approaches) te he hebiggrin

You're right about Gascoyne Junction, but everybody I've spoken to who has been out there reckon it's worth the drive. Especially now with the wild flowers coming out.
Don't forget to check out Quobba blow holes and go for a drive to the left to the shanty camp, and then north for more blow holes. You will probably see some whales too.
Good stuff! Cheers Chris
