(PS: Happens to me frequently and I have to go back and edit to get it to work).
PS Again: Just cut and pasted that link to my browser, very interesting. Perth also had a flying boat base on the Swan River. In the Broome Japanese attack, a very brave Dutch pilot stood on the runway with a machine gun held waist high firing at the Jap planes strafing the strip. Most of the flying boats sank at Broome were at anchor in the bay, filled with Dutch civilians from Java fleeing the Japanese invasion of that island. The Japs did air attacks on many WA coastal towns and one Jap submarine shelled Port Gregory (south of Kalbarri) fishing depot thinking it was an ammo depot, their aim was pretty rotten and although some rounds fell in the housing area, nobody was killed and the damage negligible.
