any one had any experiance with people who do this? I'm kind of thinking about this idea for the long trips which would be long stretch to have our dog with us is it worth having a house sitter for say 2/3 months? I could take him to a kennel but there expensive.
just be very wary of doing this Milo, be sure and demand references and that they are checkable and do the checks, there is an advert on the front of the nomads site may pay to have a squizz at that
failing that, poke in house sitters in your search engine and just go from there
My sister does this for 6 months of the year, and then they travel and whatever for the next 6. I think they're travelling for a while yet. Cmca. also has a house-sitting site I think. Cheers, xina.
we have been housesitting and travelling for 3 years now and have no problems. can supply refs and police checks but remember things work both ways. It is embarressing when you are in someones house and there is a knock on the door early in the morning from someone who is there to repossess a car, or when the power is turned off because the owners did not pay the bill.
We have been using house sitters for 7 years, for our annual trips. I use a reputable online house sitters site to source these - one of the ones that charges sitters to post on it, as a way of partially screening them. Using the site to find a sitter - or put on your own request for a sitter - is free. Our current sitters (second time we've used them) do it as a permanent lifestyle. They go from one sit to the next. Where they don't quite dovetail, they visit family, or do some sightseeing. They are very experienced - have a questionnaire we fill in with details like tradesmen contacts, preferred wash detergent for washing machine etc etc. Make sure anyone you use has a recent police check, and a variety of references and CHECK these yourself.
