ANOTHER ACCIDENT

Another fatal accident this time out near Boggabri.  This one involved a ute towing a caravan.  Thankfully the two occupants are still alive.

Please folks, take care.  It's not always us in our vans, as in this case - the "other bloke" can be just as dangerous.

Drive Safe and be careful.

Ma

A Ford Falcon side swiped the ute and van and then went head on with a 4x4 coming in the opposite direction.

Three died in the Falcon, one in the 4x4, female in ute serious injury, male in ute minor injuries.

Happened on the Newell Highway.  Ute extensively damaged.

Detours through Gunnedah and Boggabri

So much pain & suffering, not only for those directly involved but family & friends too.

All for one persons inattention or negligence (same thing really).

Good to see the vanners are ok.

Neil.

Got a first hand lesson of what happens when it all goes wrong with a van on about six weeks ago we were just north of GIN GIN and came across a van on its roof in the ditch and Falcon on its side. Not sure what happen as there was already a huge crowd giving help so we thought it wise not to stop and add to the clutter.
I can understand some peoples frustration thou I have come accross a few cars with vans on with big ques behind them that just will not pull over and let faster traffic through.

Yes, it can be VERY frustrating.  We make it a practice to pull over when possible to let faster cars pass.

It's just courtesy in my book and I'm sure all GN's would do the same.  We not only have our own safety at heart but the safety of all road users.  Pity the same wasn't applied by all on the roads, trucks included.

Being an ex truckie myself I'm not having a go at the truckies Ken ..........LOL

people are just simply in too much of a hurry these days, everything must be instant and that seems to include travel, if you are on the road and someone comes up behind then you are an obstacle in their way

I take the "b" roads, I avoid freeways like the plague, if on a well used highway and there is more than two vehicles behind me I pull off at the earliest possible time, just watch them in the mirror to see the growing agitation

if I see a truck coming up behind, I find a spot to pull off and let him go well before he has to lift his foot, being an ex semi grain truck driver (they took my heavy away because they reckon I'm mad, probably right too) I know what it takes to slow her down and wind her back up so i simply get out of their way and let them go

I've done the circle many times as well as a heap of forays into all states and territorys, I have had numerous close calls but am still here to tell

just give the idiots a wide berth and always expect that fool coming at you to cross the line, always have an escape route in mind

they are out there, but mainly enjoy the drive, not everyone is out to kill you, most, thankfully, miss us

Unfortunately this was the second caravan accident in our area in as many days. Two days earlier, a car and van was hit by a gust of wind on the Gunnedah road, about 30 miutes out of Tamworth. No other vehicles involved. The van was demolished but thank the Lord there were no serious injuries. I had passed them on the way to work, and as usual, wished it was me on the way to some interesting place. Its too easy to forget that accidents happen to good people at any time and place.

Take care everyone, be safe.
