some Q's..

when travelling , what do you do with your mail, im told at our post office they can keep it for upto 3 months

of you get crook and have to go to a doc or hospital, do you take your medical history with you?

also are cv parks ok with longer stays than say a few days? say if you feel like staying a month or 2?

also what do you do for drying clothes and washing?

Milo, if you do a search you will find all the answers you need on all these subjects.  There are numerous alternatives just a matter of picking the right one for you.

Use the search facility up on the right hand side here and put in a key word such as "mail" and it will show you all the appropriate threads.

If you can't manage I'm sure the people here would only be too pleased to help you out.   I personally don't have to use mail redirection.

Hi Milo,

Ma answered your questions about readressing mail, but not about the medical records.  We recently moved my mother into our village, her doctor simply dropped her records to a CD, fortunately most doctors use the same diagnostic/records program and it simplified the transition between doctors dramatically, no need to go through the long rigmarole of past history with the office staff before getting to see the quack.

Not sure if all doctors do this, but it may help.

Personally, I have a phobia about medicos, they just pump up your arm to increase the blood pressure and then get a cut from the chemist for the cost of the medication

Ok the mail, presumably your are worried about paying bills? you can fix that by arranging to have your bills direct debited - too easy. Australia post will hold mail for you for up to 12 months for a fee.
Doctors, if you have an ongoing illness you could take your records with you. I take quite a few medications and before I go away I tell the chemist that I'll be away for a time  and they give me enough meds to see the trip through. If you are only worried about emergency medical care I'd not be to worried.
Clothes washing and drying, ever heard of a laundrette? most CP's have laundry facilities with driers and clotheslines but you would need your own pegs, ensure you colour coordinate the pegs with the washing too.

The only thing with staying longer at any location is that the CP may not have vacancies, you'd have to check at each place or book ahead.

You could change your address to a willing relative, (I used my daughter's mail box) and provide them with prepaid express mail bags, so they can send your mail on the next destination. Failing that, there are postal handling services available for just these occasions.
I think I've explained what I do for my medical stuff, but I do carry a medical "file" of everything - eyes, medication, conditions etc.
Van parks these days don't really specify stay periods. There used to be a time limit to stay, but these days if you're paying, you're staying. Just ask the park people where you are staying. Even in the peak season you can stay on, and if the park is full then it's on to the next park. Many don't take bookings a this time, but you can phone ahead a day or two before you move on.
All parks have full laundry facilities - machines, dryers and clothes lines. The machines cost $'s. Some people handwash their clothes every couple of days to save bucks. The clothes doesn't get really dirty, just maybe sweaty and they need to be freshened up as you go.
You'll work out what works best for you when you get a handle on this lifestyle. You're gonna luv it! Cheers Chris
