Snookered...

Bought an Item on Ebay for $9.99, it arrived broken so I thought I'd get a refund... Ok easy peasy... WRONG I can have a refund if I pay for the return airmail postage of $19......
Naturally my feedback was a tad caustic....
Cut my losses on this one I guess....

It is the one problem with E/bay Basil. I bought some parker lights for my Ford and they just didn't quite fit (cheap Chinese imitation) ........had hell's only job getting my money back. Only thing that saved me was someone else had had the same problem.

Try contacting e/bay itself and report the problem. You may be surprised at the result. It's what I had to do at that time to get a result. If they are not packing it properly it isn't your fault and if they don't refund you then e/bay may kick them off. It worked for me.

May be too late for that for me, I opened dialogue with the seller (in HK who speaks very limited english) who told me to "buy part from me", escalated it to a dispute, then again to a claim and it was agreed I could get the cost refunded but they were adamant that I HAD TO PAY AIRMAIL POSTAGE.... I don't think my feedback leaves any course for further meaningful dialogue.....
The trap was that I fell for a cheap product....

Hi Basil,
It doesnt only happen on ebay, We purchased a car cover on internet and was damaged when it arrived, Got the run around and ended up having to send back at our expense and was also charged postage for the new one. Not good customer service but we had no choice as we would have lost all of our money if we didnt pay.We will think twice before purchasing of internet again. This was an Australian company,

bought a uhf radio on e-bay.delivered from perth to townsville, received within 3 days.returned it for warranty service, postage paid by supplier and returned within 6 days.
on the other hand bought water filter cartridge from gold coast, complained about ongoing water taste, got nothing but abusive e-mails from supplier.complained to e-bay and had abusive comments withdrawn from my profile.
just the luck of the draw.

hi.      when all you blokes pay for your items on ebay, why dont you use paypal.   i allways thought that it was, foolproof for the buyer to get duded.         i know if the buyer, puts up a fair case,  paypal will just transfer your money back to you out of the sellers ebay account

That was one of the things I meant Ken. The other thing is to complain directly to ebay after negotiations with the seller have broken down. Ebay won't have any shonks on their site.

Yes PAYPAL said I was entitled to a refund. The point in this case is that the Item cost $9.95 and the postage was $19. Paypay insist that you use a "carrier" that they nominate (they give you a choice) and pay insurance, registration etc and that you HAVE to return the goods at your expense before they will give you a refund.... The supplier in this case has "giggled" the postage to cover the real cost of the item. If an item cost say $300 and you had to pay $20 postage I'd accept that...
I've bought tons of stuff via the net including a Milling machine and I only ever seem to have trouble with some Asian suppliers and it's only the ones working out of a room in Hong Kong that have stuffed me around. Fact not a racist slur.
Paypal is indeed the simplest way to purchase from overseas however just read the fine print it is definatley biased toward the supplier.
In this case Ebay were not interested as soon as they discovered that I had paid via Paypal.

It's the luck of the draw, usually if there is any probs at all I find that the threat of negative feedback prompts suppliers to do the right thing.

This morning there is a long email in Chinglish telling me how they can resolve the problem, however at my cost, though I'm having trouble interpreting it....
Maybe an idea if we perhaps post the suppliers details for those who are less than totally honest?

Disco, sorry mate I beg to differ on that point. Ebay don't care as long as they are making money....

I don't buy from the net, but the first time I used EBay, well my son  used his account for me, I bought a craft rubber stamp from a company over in America, the stamp was faulty, I sent them an email, they said send it back.  I received a new  one back with two more stamps of a similar category with a letter full of apologies.  There are good companies out there.

Yes there are many suppliers who are wonderfull to deal with, I have had very few probs really when you consider the amount of stuff I have bought.

Good idea Basil.

Talk to Cindy about one of those "STICKY" sites and we can all put the dealers or traders on there that dud us.

Just thinking about that......................don't know the legalities of that. Some do-gooder lawyer would have a reason why we weren't allowed to do this. Might contravene something or other.

Sure would help some folks though if it were legal.

Yes the legality is questionable, however, if one posts the facts, and only the facts without any "personal" attacks there is little anyone can do, even the doo good no win, no fee lawyers would steer clear. I have found with most sensible suppliers you only have to mention that you will tell your side of the story to get an amicable resolution. Just this mobs version is "Ok you send back item at your cost - we reprace or reflund money no worries" yeah Ok so I spend $19 to get $9.95 back and they can't seem to see how this would annoy me....confuse
