After many delays we have finally hit the road from Grafton for our 1 to 2 year Aus trip. Only got as far as Woody Head so far which is less than an hour away,. Stayed 4 nights there and loved every minute of it but was surprised at the $28 a night unpowered site fee. We found out too late that not too far away the Brooms Head Caravan Park is $20 for a powered site but won't complain as Woody Head is beautiful.

A few problems with the van like the Electrolux 3 way fridge gas ignition switch is a bit stubborn & refuses to light way too much, will have to find an expert somewhere to take a look at it I think. Also the new caravan battery may be faulty so took it back to Grafton to be seen to, which was ok as Hylda's recently fixed tooth was painful so another dentist trip was required & arranged in the same trip. Sloooowly heading north, Next stop is a friends place near Broadwater about an hour away, & hopefully fixing most teething problems along the way (not only Hylda's), Here's hoping.

Hello Hylda & John.

We hope you enjoy your journey, we have recently arived home from our "Around Oz" trip and the big discrepancy in caravan park charges was one thing that never ceased to amaze us.  We often stayed in free camp sites (along with hundreds of other Grey Nomads) where it was practical. The money we saved free camping made it easier to part with a few extra bucks when we wanted the comfort and security of a caravan park.

Hope you sort out your fridge problem, we have the same fridge but always lit first time on gas. As for teething problems, it doesn't matter if your van is old or new, everyone seems to have a few little hiccups along the way.

Hi Hylda & Jon,

I'm sure you wouldn't have this problem, but for what it's worth, I couldn't get our gas rings to ignite with the electronic lighter button (didn't try the fridge but probably would have been the same) so had to use a manual gun lighter. Reason was the igniter works off the battery and I had the battery isolater switch turned off (DUH !).

With the fridge, if you've had it switched off at the bottle (which you should do for travelling), you need to give the gas time to come through to the fridge when you turn the bottle on. To hurry it up a bit, you can turn on one of your stove gas rings and light that, mine seems to reach that first.

As Vic41 mentioned, if you havent used the gas fridge for a while it takes a dickens of a time to charge up with enough gas to kick off.   Should be almost instant from there onwards if you are using it every other day or so.  

Have fun.  I am very jealous as I am still working and not travelling full time.
