Caravan insurance hike

Just received my caravan insurance renewal notice ... which announces a whopping 40 percent increase over last year! We are now being asked to fork out $1540, instead of the $1116 we paid last year.

The company explains the rise by saying it received an avalanche of claims arising from this year's storms and floods in Queensland, NSW and Victoria.

Has anyone else been asked to pay a hefty rise in this year's premiums?

Safe travels,
Dennis

Look around. Can't see why a van should attract a hike like that considering a great many homes in those areas effected in NQ and NSW didn't carry any insurance and put their hand to the taxpayer and those who foolishly made donations to those funds that spring up like wild flowers after a storm but fade just as quickly.

My van insurance is up for renewal and has gone up about ten per cent, so I decided to get a few quotes from other companies before renewing.....some of which frightened the crap out of me so I think I will be staying with RACQ Keith

I'm with APIA and mine has not gone up and I have $45000 cover on the van plus $3000 "contents" and $1000 "personal items" and that costs me $480

We are with APIA the same as you Basil AND you can pay by the month without any added fees, unlike some of the other bigger insurance companies.

The monthly payment thing helps with the budget and I have found APIA's service excellent

Service is excellent Basil.  Nothing to hard and very helpful courteous staff.  I have ALL my insurances with them now.  Some are a tad more on the premiums, not a hell of a lot though, and you get the usual discount for bundling.

Just insured our van (On purchase) cheapest with GOOD cover that I could get was for $725.00 for agreed value of $50k.

The Land Cruiser (2005 Series 100 4.2ltr diesel manual) cheapest with GOOD cover was $700.00 for agreed value of $40k

Both with RAC WA.

Regards
Noel

Yes and when I took out the diesel bowser at Parkes they even refunded the cost of the spilt diesel....

I'm with Ken Tame (Wesfarmers trading as Lumley Ins). My whole motorhome and contents and more $1002. They were the cheapest and the best I could find. (via the CMCA though).smile

CIL and National Seniors Insurance are underwritten by ALLIANZ. I pay less than $400 for my van and contents and annexe. The annexe roller is included with the van insurance as a van fixture.
You're being robbed. Shop around. You money, your right. Cheers Chris
