Hi Im trying to work out what sort of 4X4 i need to tow a 20' van.In my opinion Cruisers and Patrols are very expensive when compared to Pajero's.Compare a Toyota to a Pajero its $10,000 dearer.Thats a very expensive brand badge!
We had the same, problem.Went for a pajero in the end, have not done our big trip yet,but a couple of 6hr towing trips thats all up and have not had a problem. The pajero is 2007 when brought had 48000km now has 51000km,its a vrx turbo diesel auto.It took us 6mths to make our minds up. GOOD LUCK Syd & Donna
I went for a Kia Sorento, 5 year unlimited warranty, Common Rail Turbo Diesel, very ecconomical, cumfortably pulls my 21 footer. Has all the bells and whistles.... AND HEAPS CHEAPER!!!!! Look around for a demo and you should be able to get a very good price....

KIA Sorento CRDi EX ( Ebony black) with 5 hex chrome plated tire air valve covers, Coramal Sunsheild, Elcheapo GPS, First Aid Kit, full KIA toolkit & Yellow lenses on the Foglights......
Try the ex rental (NOT Mining or Red Dirt) wholesalers. You may find a good bargain there. After much looking we found a 2005 Model, Series 100, straight 6 manual diesel Land Cruiser. Good price and good condition. Came with dual batteries, snorkel, 80ltr water tank, dual long range tanks, side rails (Steps) side out storage drawers and racks.
Hi I live near pickles auctions (Salisbury S.A) there are always heaps of 4x4 for auction .I think i will stick with the cruiser turbo diesel seems to have the best word of mouth. What sort of mileage are people getting with a cruiser ?
I've averaged 8kms/litre, or in the old money 18 miles to the gallon according to my old fashioned uncle. This average was calculated taking all situations into consideration. With and without the van, with or without aircon, in towns and on the open road. I was very happy with it, and pleasantly surprised. The secret is in the foot - keep it light. No point in being in a hurry to take off with a diesel, and no point in haste towing a van. It's in your wallet's best interest to keep the foot light. Good luck with that. Cheers Chris
