Hi all, How many times have you had the genny running to watch the late movie , When the time comes to turn it off . In the cold , and it could be raining.. You know the situation.. Do you send the wife out to turn the thing off? Ok only joking girls.. Well last year I had to do this each night or try to turn over and listen to it and lay there waiting for the ..Burrrp Burrp ect ect. Now what I have come up with is a timer that is plugged in to the genny and fitted up to the kill switch.. Just set the time and ,yep off it goes right on time.. Had to get to the kill switch in the genny , solder two wires to it.. Then get one of thoes timer,s out of a stove , fitted a microswitch to it.. I did used a new one.. Electrolux 0609100270 timer 2 hour cutoff .. the switch came in n/o. that is normaly open .. so i had to fit a n/c.. normaly closed one.. Put it all in a box and this year will be bliss.. Our van is totaly sola powered, and on a cloudy day we like to run the genny in the morning for a hour or two.. easy now.. Hope this helps some one.. This is our first post on this site.. have been reading a lot here.. Bob n Bev

welcome Bob, I agree with what Gary said, mate neaten that Idea up, and make it saleable and I think you are on a winner, you will have to get a patent before releasing it though
I hate gennys and anything that shuts them off gets my vote!
Hi Bob, I would be more worried about the genny growing legs & walking, rather than ducking out to put it away.If it does you will be really hot under the collar then.
Its been done before, even while running an old clunker was fired up ,quick change of the lead a slight blink in the power in with the old out with the new I know where mine is kept.

Hi guys, we had a black out the other day in the modern city of Glasshouse mountains and I ran a generator, (one of the latest, greatest and quietest) in our yard to run the freezer. Not only did the fumes get me, the noise. I have yet to set off on my trip as we are still setting up and I have eqqiped my van and car with the latest technology to enjoy the trip, eg solar and additional batteries. I would hate to think what a generator would sound like in the middle of a camping trip. I am ex army and know we have come along way from the old KVA,
a Genny in the middle of a night in bush camp is akin to laying beside a railway track just as the ghan is passing, people just dont realise their little bit of ignorant self indulgence impinges so much on everybody else
I have a genny timer. My genny runs for 6 hours on a tank of fuel so I one third fill it and that gives me two hours..............two thirds, gives me four hours etc etc. Works for me but I DO like that idea. Well done and thanks
