Streaky Bay has let me down....

disbeliefdisbelief

After all the time I have been a staunch supporter of SB, I arrived here last Friday to immense disappointment....

The jetty is closed for repair furious

Not only is the jetty closed, there has been howling easterlies blowing making it hard to get near the water anywhere.

I have managed to get a good feed of squid from the boatramp groyne today though, so I am getting happier.

A couple doz fat Pacific oysters on Saturday helped my demeanor immensely too.

Friday and Sunday night teas at the pub with battered King George whiting fillets also helped.

Have I said I am as happy as a pig in doo-doo? biggrin

I only have one more target now, which may well be achievable with the extra low tides we are having, that is a feed of Razorfish hearts smile, anyone who has had them will agree to their being a delicacy.

I so love this place, we are here til Friday morning but must leave then to get to Adelaide to celebrate Mum's 90th birthday (bit inconsiderate of her don't ya reckon?)

We will be back though towards the end of the month....yippeeee

Gotta go get some Calamari crumbs ready...biggrin

See ya

Awwww, I wanna come too.
Pity about that jetty, but it's better repaired than dismantled like so many others around the country. SA is pretty conscientious about keeping their jetties for recreations reasons and for their historical significance. They played a major part in coastal shipping to get stores in and primary produce out.
Mmmm razor fish hearts, better than scallops. Really good whiting bait too.
Any gardies around. Those big, fat garfish from that part of the world are too bit to butterfly.
In Broome they use garfish for billfish bait during the annual fishing comp in August.
It's sacrilege! Just put the lead boots on and enjoy. Cheers

Shame about the jetty, a really good one to just walk out on. Nice that you are as happy as a pig etc. We were in that area in 2006 and experienced the type of wind you described. The locals called it "Blowvember". They were right. Enjoy.

Terry.

I read your headline and you scared me. glad your enjoying the seafood I forgot to mention to you jetty was closed. And it was strange when we were there no wind whatsoever but everyone said thats all it did before we got there blow like crazy. October is known as the windy month.  A good spot for the razorfish as we enjoyed a lot of them while we were there is around just past the caravan park and the wetlands where you can drive in thats where Rob and I got most of them. But i must say when we were out fishing with our letting agent at Haslam they were 4 times the size than what you get close in the bay. He had a gadget that had big prongs on a pole and a rope and you drag them in. Rob has since made one on our return home. He usually just takes a rake. Have a great time. Hope you got some battered oysters at the pub or caravan park kiosk. cheryl

Razor fish are the BEST!! Such a shame the greedy mongrels have very nearly wiped them out around Ceduna.

Gotta tell you Granny.................I would rather eat Razor Fish than Whiting. Tried using them for bait once but I ate most of them.....

Maybe I'll try whiting as bait for Razor Fish??

The hearts are always bigger in winter. The colder the water...............the bigger the heart. In the middle of summer the biggest razor fish will only have a small heart.

Try the Razor Hearts crumbed and lightly cooked in garlic butter on a BBQ Neil You can even batter them and deep fry them but make sure cooking time is short.

When all else fails...............bring them to me in Adelaide and I'll get rid of them for you hehehehe

Happy Birhtday to Mum!!

 Thanks for those wishes Disco.

As yet I haven't been wading for 'razors', maybe on the return trip in a few weeks.

I also want to correct a senior moment I had in my first post in this thread, well, maybe NOT senior, I have always had problems getting my head around the fact that when walking out along the jetty here, you are actually walking north!

So... the easterly winds I mentioned were in fact westerlies!

And there I was hoping they would abate before we leave tomorrow and now they have cry

I know the tool you mean Cheryl, years ago when my BoL was pro whiting fishing here he used one of those very effectively, anywhere just out from the silos was good grounds then.

Anyway, no wind this morning, I'm off to get a few last squid to take to Adelaide.....

Hoo roo
