A friend made me a steel framed step with an alluminium chequerplate step, as long as the van doorway, and about a shoe width. Provides a sturdy, stable place to put your feet up and down. I put table leg stoppers in the end of the legs to ensure it didn't slip, and to stop spiders setting up house in my steps. It's not too heavy, but very stable. The plastic ones are a bit too high especially on the down step. I found it hurt my back. Good luck with that.

There are a couple pictured on Aussie Traveller I use the one at the bottom when I have to pack up the LH wheel. When this one is a little high I use the common Fiamma plastic one.
