I would appreciate a bit of info regarding a licence matter.My son has a Queensland drivers accreditation to drive a courtesy bus.It looks as though he will be moving to Southern NSW.I tried to make an enquiry with the RTA about how to transfer his accreditation or would he have to obtain a NSW one.Well you would think that I was asking for the world.They did not have an answer.Is it just the Raymond Terrace office of the RTA or is it a difficult question to answer.Does anyone have an answer for me.? There is no real national drivers licence accreditation. Even truckies have to have state endorsements. I had an SA bus licence which I lost when I transferred my drivers licence to WA. I'm guessing the Qld/NSW licence transfer would be the same. He may get a head start with recognised prior experience, but I reckon he'll have to do some tests to get NSW accreditation. If he does it on his own bat he pays. If he's heading to a new job they may help him cover some of the retraining costs. Ibbo, advise him to check out all his options while he's doing his homework into the relocation. It's best he does it all himself so he can answer any questions relevant to his qualifications, and he can get all the new information first hand.

About 10 years ago bus licence disappeared when national licence were introduced in australia for all heavy vehicles , to drive a bus all you need is a heavy vehicle licence but to you drive a bus with paying passengers you must have the driver accreditation which include health check and criminal check

I looked on my accreditation Ib, thought there might have been a hint of what it meant but nothing of interest at all.
There surely should be some form of a change over without having to re do it. Mine cost me several hundred dollars four or five years ago so no idea what it would be now.

Thanks Linda,I thought along the road that there was/or should be a method of transfering an accreditation from one state to another.After the answers I had from RTA Raymond Terrace I am surprised that even the roads can find their ways Interstate.If it is just a simple licence changeover no prob,but the Accreditation does seem to be aproblem.Once again thank you all for the help.I believe that the advice for Dan(son)to check it all out himself would be the best answer.Cheers.Ibbo.
Ibbo, I understand it to be, as Brickie has put it: A licence to cover the type of vehicle driven and a separate one (drivers authorisation) to cover 'paying passengers'.
Moving from the NT to Qld caused this to show its head. My licence was changed over ok, but I had to sit for a 'drivers Authorisation' test to retain the ability to have paying passengers.
This DA, is a state thing, not National like my licence.
IT is a national licence issue by a state transport department ,and the diver authorisation by the same transport department in the state that you live which allow you to drive any where in australia ,in queensland if you more from interstate you must obtain a queensland drivers licence within about 28 days
I have had my SA drivers licence for about 18mths after leaving WA and allowing it to expire. I'd been without a drivers licence for about 6mths before I noticed it when I used it for ID. When I enquired WA told me I needed to use my SA postal address as a base, so I have an SA licence now. I've been in Qld for more than 2 years and have no intention of changing. Each state has its own charges as well. I investigated the availability of a national car licence, but it only applies to heavy transport drivers going interstate. Bus licences have state specific accreditation and therefore must be applied to each state. Registrations are supposed to be changed state by state after 3 months as well, but for we nomads it's not very practical. My vehicles are still registered in WA, with an SA address and I'm not about to change. The bottom line is if our vehicles are registered and we are currently licensed what difference does it make? Except to the revenue of each state - especially the ones which are missing out.

I think you will find that national licence applies to all heavy vehicle licence issued in australia wether the diver drive interstate or locally in their own state . when these licence came in i worked for QFRS and we all had to renew our licence to" national heavy licence"which replaced the old "c class" and we did not drive interstate .regards other licence you must hold a licence which your permanent address is , this is only a problem if you are pull up by the boys in blue
