Happy birthday Sesame street, well done ernie and bert and big bird and oscar and grover and snuffleuppagus, now I didnt watch it you understand but the kids loved it
My kids loved it too. I am suprised that the politically correct brigade, also known as the fun police, have not bitched and moaned about this show. After all, most of the cast wear no clothes. Poor old Humfrey the Bear got canned!!
Humphrey might have got canned but poor old Fat Cat was cut off in his prime. Humphrey went on for quite a few years. Well done Sesame street, spawned a good spin off with the Muppetts as well.
Terro.

I remember when we used to have a food fair, we invited humphrey b bear and his wife along, all the kids were standing at the front of the stage, shouting HUMPHREY, HUMPHREY HUMPHREY
well the curtains parted and this eight foot bear jumped out clapping it's hands and jumping carrying on, o.m.g. the kids were screaming and running and howling there was not a kid left at the stage within a minute, the funniest thing I ever saw!
cookie monster will always be my.............. err........... umm.................... my kids favorite monster, "what number is this cookie"...."me no care, arrumphh arrrummpphh chomp chomp!!"
not that I watched it you understand, merely on passing!

Fat Cat went on to do the club circuit. No, not the kindergarten club silly - the adult version. A very funny show, but no use taking the kids, they wouldn't understand it. I saw the show at a gig in Lincoln a long time ago.
The Cookie Monster still says "cookie", but his heart says broccoli.

Sure beats the crap out of all those modern cartoons. All the japanes stuff and bionicles etc etc.
Give me Seame street................the road runner, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry, Yosemite Sam, Tweety and Sylvester etc etc. anytime. Real violence not this namby pamby stuff they have on nowadays.
I have to admit the Grouch was a personal favourite and I used to love the two old boys at the theatre.

The genius in these shows was their ability to capture the hearts and minds of all age groups: To keep the oldies entertained at the same time as the littlies.
Very witty and intelligent with it.
I'm not a great 'yankophile', but Sesame Street really is a world's best, and the Muppets, together with the scripting for them, have yet to be equaled.
My favourite character was always the bald headed mad saxophonist, closely followed by the band's drummer. I think they were both very much drawn from real life

Apparently the US First Lady joined the "Street" for the celebrations. It was shown this morning on TV. She was gardening with them sowing seeds to grow vegetables. It was a great segment explaining how the seeds were sown to get the best result, and the benefits of eating fresh f&v. There were so many issues addressed in a 3 min segment. While some of the old messages have gone, the quality and life lessons stay.
