I can't vouch for any of these but it sounds interesting...........Someone may know more??
Ducky
5 THINGS YOU PROBABLY NEVER KNEW YOUR MOBILE PHONE COULD DO There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:
FIRST Emergency The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112.
If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialedeven if the keypad is locked. Try it out.
SECOND Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock yourkeys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phonefrom your cell phone.
Hold your cell phone about a foot fromyour car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end.
Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.
Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the boot).
Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a mobile phone!'
THIRD Hidden Battery Power
Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery.
This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.
FOURTH How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 #
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen.
This number is unique to your handset.
Write it down and keep it somewhere safe.
When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code.
They will then be able to block your handsetso even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless.
You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either.
If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.
FIFTH ATM - PIN Number Reversal - Good to Know
If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your PIN # in reverse.
For example, if your pin number is 1234, then you would put in 4321.
The ATM system recognizes that your PIN number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine.
The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to the location.
This information was recently broadcast on CTV by Crime Stoppers. However it is seldom used because people just don't know about it. Please pass this along to everyone.
This is the kind of information people don't mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends

DD is to be commended for putting this post up on the basis seeking more information rather than asserting its validity like some of the emails that "do the rounds".
I have all my credit card and mobile phone details (and other stuff as well) registered with Secure Sentinel. In the event of loss or theft one call to them and they will do the rest. I think there are other providers of this sort of service too.
Addendum: The paragraph about the serial no of the phone is valid and this should be recorded somewhere safe but accessible. (I have mine recorded with Secure Sentinel)

Well i know the first one is untrue 112 does not get you through to "000" , it is used when you are out of reach of your service provider, but in range of another service provider at that stage if this is the case your phone will advise you 112 only , and only in that case 112 will get you through to "000" if you use 112 at any other time could mean the difference between life and death .PLEASE ALLWAYS RING"000". it is unwise to post these sort of things if you have not check it out
I use Secure Sentinal also. An insurance for all these things like phone, cards, car keys and electrical equipment. One can never be too careful, especially in this lifestyle.

I doubt very much that the key pad for unlocking a vehicle would work. Key pads operate on a different frequency than mobie phones. The definitely wont pick RF energy from a keypad & re transmit it. Daryl.
The use of a mobile phone to unlock your car I believe has been proven wrong. This came up on another forum some time ago and I'm sure it didn't work. Haven't heard of the battery reserve or the diit number for stiolen phones. I have a gut feeling that the reverse of the PIN number may be a bit of a Furphy as well. I'm not going to try as I've had an ATM keep my card in the past and it's too much trouble to get it back. Have a look at a web site called snopes.com they debunk a lot of these things. I would look but at the moment I am busy trying to get a meal break at work.

Snopes, http://www.snopes.com/ , is an excellent "myth busting" site. This is an American site but in addition there is Hoax Slayer, http://www.hoax-slayer.com/ , which is a home grown Aussie myth busting site.
It's well worth "bookmarking" both these sites to check out some of the crap that does the rounds in emails before passing them on.
If the emails urge you to pass them on to as many people you know (or something to that effect) it's "odds on" that it's a Furphy.

Yep so true.....
This stuff does work in some places on the planet particularly in the USA where 0202 on your mobile whether there is a signal or not will call immediate assistance from an alien spacecraft. The reverse pin code thing is a proven furphy, far better to give them the money, take pictures with your mobile phone for giving the cops a clue, or carry a "replica" colt 45 in such times as it may scare them off....

Basil I like the replica Colt 45 Idea. Prob here in SA you probably be arested for even owning one these days. It apears the only people who are well armed are criminals. We arnot alowed to own a replica.
You are right Brickies .......these things should not be posted if they are not proven and that is why I asked if anyone knew better, so if they were verified, then I would post them. In the meantime I ask and learn!!
It did bring out something of value...............I for one had never heard of Secure Sentinel. But now I have and I am going to make enquiries. I like the idea of that. I also didn't know about the 0202 number getting immediate response from an alien spaceship so I will be putting that one in my phone on speed dial in the event that I may go to America.

I'm makeing one of these it prevents mind control; will be outstanding protection against the Gov't Beaureaucracy. You people never cease to amaze me, you believe in GOD but have no faith in anything that was not drummed into you at Sunday School by some local busybody who herself/himself had also been brainwashed... Oh you can also make Alfoil bikinis for the fairer sex to prevent Alien insemination which is also a major US problem. I can see Ma and Granny poncing around the Tropics in their skillfully "handcrafted by Guru" Alfoil swim wear...... And lets not forget man's best friend, their brains can be controled toooooooo

Disco i just wanted everyone to make sure they ring "000" and not to use any other unless requested by your mobile phone to do so has if you do ring any other you may not get the help you need. we have a great 000 system in Australia ,I have spent some time in fire service call room and know of lot of people ring 911 after hear this on tv, any other than "000" could make the difference between life and death . we do things better than the yanks look what they did to Telstra, there are people if they see it on the internet it must be right

In an emergency dialing 112 does work, I have used it. Broke down 25 klm's South of Coober Pedy, could not get a gsm signal so I dialed 112 and was answered by the 000 operator who put me in contact with the police.

I have learnt something again. Thanks JRH !! I hope I never have the cause to try it and as Pricey43 said...............if I do have to use it I hope I remember it. No point in writing it down and keeping it in my wallet because I probably won't be able to get it out when I am hanging upside down in my seatbelt :)

You are right Brickies..............we do have a very good 000 system here and let us fervently hope that it never changes.
Onya for caring Mate!!

JRH yes thats right your mobile i am sure would have told you to ring 112 and thats how the system works but you would not use that number in Sydney or Canberra i would hope you would ring 000 , Some people think 112 work off a satellite it does not it work only on mobile system if it worked off a satellite why do lots of people hire sat phones when they go outback
Before you say any more.....please read the original post of mine. Then please read the answer that JRH posted. Nobody is trying to replace or suggesting replacing the ooo numbers. Noboby suggested using 112 instead of 000. The statement was..................if 000 is not covered on your phone at a certain point.......then try 112.
You would not use it on a sat phone or in the capital cities because you would have normal satelite or phone tower coverage. Nobody mentioned Sat phones .
I guess people hire Sat phones so they don't have to use 112?? J/Kidding
You are so right and passionate in what you are saying BUT it is not relevant to the post :)
FIRST
Emergency The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112.

now before you fellers go and try and emulate me, I would like to state that I think Duckys post is a good one if for no other reason than to "enlighten" us on possible misnomour and fiction regarding the phone functions, after all you did say right at the start you were not sure of the validity of this
well done Ducky for listing this and well Done Brickies for showing the faults, a good thing to get all info out
I must admit after falling asleep in front of a couple of foul mouthed yanky shows that in an emergency I would dial 911, yanks have a lot to answer for and australian film should be revitalised
please leave me as the bad guy on this forum, I'm so damn good at it!
DaveO......................You keep your BIG nose out of our business.!!
Brickies and I have unfinished mans business here and we are going to fight it out to the end. Whipped cream and baby powder at three feet at Dawn.!! We will sort this out. :)
We aren't arguing mate.................as you said that is your domain and we don't need it. Besides Brickies is being very reasonable and compromisin here and is seeing things my way. LOL LOL
Get back to what you are doing and leave us nice people alone!!

NOW you are talking Brickies.....................!! Love that thought.
What will happen is I will break down on fire ban day or I'd just get it started after rubbing two sticks together for four hours and DaveO would rock up in a fire truck and put it out.!!
I don't think I'm going to win mate. :) :)
Besides it's all crap..............I don't think you can lock the keypad on a flip phone. LOL
