Talkback on the ABC Radio this morning was full of people who were irate at the idea. One guy said " The Last Post is not played for the living, it's a mark of respect for the dead." Another woman brought up the point of how it would affect some-one who had had a loved one killed on duty overseas, hearing it while at the supermarket, or somewhere else in public. Some-one else said that after hearing it, he would be waiting for the minute of silence.
The host of the programme did say that maybe any earnings would go to a good cause, but I still didn't hear one person who was in favour of it. And he did say several times, that it was the RSL who was behind it. Cheers, xina.
Hmmmm, The RSL do go to extremes at times. I believe that the RSL actually dosen't have the right to "sell" the last post as a ring tone anyway. I'm a member but I still think they do some provocative manouvres at times. If you want it anyway I can give it to you for free as a ringtone, in fact I can give you just about any tune you want as a ringtone for free.

It's meaning is much too meaningful to be used in a frivolous way. This morning's Remembrance Day Service was another reminder. It's not for sale. As the members. What an awful concept. Who the hell thought of that?

I am in no way experienced enough in this to provide a decent answer but my understanding of the last post was as a beddy bye tune wasnt it, time to get your pillow and blanky and go night nights
I dont know what the returned fellers think of this but if any of you (or them) take umbridge then I think it should be pulled off the phone as simply a mark of respect
How desperate is the RSL for money to disrespect the Last Post to that extent?? "Not on" in my opinion.
By the same token, I guess the only people who would download it as a ringtone would be Returned Servicemen or older family members, who have someone to remember. I can't imagine some teeny-bopper having it on their phone.
Maybe some merit in it.........I don't know...........but I don't think I would like to hear it on my phone regardless of who I lost. Ceremonial occassions only I think!
