Taxi Driver Shame

After this morning's Remembrance Day Service in Cairns, and elderly gentleman struggled to move his walker off the kerb to the waiting taxis station wagon.
The driver just sat there, while this lovely old man battled his way to the tailgate to stow his walker.
Observing the struggle, "Guru" Robert went to the man's aid, and still the taxi driver held his seat behind the wheel.
Even after Robert opened the tailgate the driver just looked in the rear vision mirror, from his seat behind the wheel, and did nothing except mutter some instructions.
When the nice old man's walker was secured by Robert, he produced a walking stick and used it to get to the front passenger seat of the taxi.
Ma, Guru and I greeted the man with words of encouragement as he struggled into the taxi.
Helping someone comes naturally to most people.  Obviously not to this taxi driver.
No service there.  Taxi 64 Black and White Taxis.

Oh dear me.... But Guru to the rescue again!!!
On the taxi front they are now about to launch a national english test for taxi Drivers, still won't stop them from taking the scenic route if they think you don't know the city you are in.

I didn't help physically, but we sure supported him.
I have since made some enquiries about the procedure for reporting this ignorant gherkin for his laziness.
My source tells me things are so bad in the Cairns Taxi industry which is an absolute monopoly, the ombudman is on the way next week.
He also shared another observation he made at the shopping centre.
Little old lady struggling with trolley full of shopping. Gets to taxi and is then left to struggle to load her shopping into the cab. Driver? Sitting in his comfortable, air-conditioned taxi.
Too hot to get out I suppose. The build up humidity kicked in seriously this morning.
(It's bucketing down as I write, and we've had more than 20mm since 5pm.
When did taxi stop being a service?

Chris
I agree about these two cases you mention, where we have oxygen thieves as drivers.

I did hear though, that the Ombusman is coming to all major QLD centres, due to the owners not paying the drivers correctly.

Pay peanuts and get monkeys, or in the those cases you mentioned, pigs.

That sort of behaviour is becoming more prevalent everywhere you go. It is not confined to the Taxi industry. Although being a service industry we should be able to expect a bit better from them. There is no training for them anymore and nobody in the supervisory positions seem to care.

Funny lot in this country................You see people slamming their brakes on, nearly causing multiple car pile-ups, to let a mother duck and her brood of ducklings cross the road but they honk their horns and shake their fists at some poor old lady in a walking frame trying to cross the road.

For heaven's sake......don't have a break down on the road. That nearly causes world war three. Rather than stop and help by pushing the car out of the way people will honk and abuse and perform........almost as if you did it on purpose.

We need more folk like Guru and DaveO and too many other Nomads to mention, to continue helping the way they do, because if they stop......... then ???

Onya Guru!! I hope the moron taxi driver sees these posts somewhere, (someone will probably have to read them to him) ands maybe feels just a little bad??

Cheers

I'm sorry DD, but I actually burst into laughter when I read the irony of the little old lady vs the duck family.
Kindness does not, nor should it discriminate between people and animals.
The greenies crack up about roos road kill and all other victims of the traffic, but I don't hear them cracking up at bad manners and inconsideration in our everyday lives.
Navigating my way through the shopping mall as kids run feral and out of control around the legs of everyone, young and old, able and disabled.
The large groups which stop smack dab in the front of me and my trolley to have a chat, and then tell me to say "excuse me." If I'd slammed the trolley into their ankles because of their sudden stop, no "excuse me's" would have been able to shut them up.
I'm going to do my best to keep my old fashioned manners and respectful ways as long as I'm in control of my own behaviour.
It all comes back to the BIG "R" - RESPECT!

talk about respect and giving way to ducks well I can understand and relate to that, 3.30 this morning, concentrating on dodging the rocky reefs, contour banks and following the slant of the hill (why I cant use the GPS self guidance) just going over a rise when I get a hell of a "WHACK" on the front screen

hit by a Bloody black Duck! this thing was flying low in formation with its wing commander, obviously on a low level bombing run, came over the rise and whacked me right on the screen, took ten years off my life, then before I could gather my thoughts and jump out to grab him he took off again

couldnt even have a duck dinner,

thats why you give way to ducks, they are viscious! dont trust them!

Respect:- Most people today don't know how to spell it let alone know what it means.
