I dunno about you lot, but this grumpy old bugger, with his cynicism honed by nearly half a century as a journo, walked a bit taller yesterday, with a spring in his step (and, yes, a tear in each eye) at the news that the co-joined Bangladeshi girls in Melbourne had been separated and appeared to be doing well. Well done each and every member of the medical team! Can't help thinking that if the countless millions that we waste in Iraq and that corrupt cesspit Afghanistan was spent on bringing kids here for lifesaving and/or cosmetic surgery (fixing hare lips, cleft palates and suchlike) we would win a lot more friends overseas. It's nothing short of a medical miracle. To think they've had to separate brains, arteries, veins, nerves and skull, with the help of prothesis skulls, it's just an absolute wonder. It doesn't matter who the surgeons are, but it is another statement to support women in professions such as these. And they are all so young, and so wise. To hear the one who's awake is talking as if nothing has changed other than she's been separated from her sister is absolutely wonderful. And it was all done by Australians. We have to be proud of the education system and their skills which got them this far.
