Picture of the month contest

On another forum they have a picture of the month contest, catagory for the topic is chosen by the previous month's winner.
At the end of the month, submitted photo's are shorlisted then a poll is held to determine the winner.
Would this be of interest to the forum members?

It's one of the better features of that "other" site.
They get so personal and critical, and there seems to be another competition - who knows the most?
I think such a comp would work well here.

yeah nearly threw up my lunch over that one, hey waaaaaaiiiiiiiiit a minute no comparison between my romanesque elite athletic type body and his, oh well perhaps a little but opposite

where his gut goes in well mine kinda goes out (almost a built in table) room for four grandkids, plus a few on my knees

where he's got a pirates delight chest (sunken) mine is shall we say "pronounced"

oh well I'll accept defeat (they are after all attached) and not post my 1985 penthouse centrefold entry (it was summarily dismissed but thats not the point it was submitted)

your loss, I'll just go and do something else, sniff!!!!!!!!!!!!

think maybe categories would be good,  eg:  1. flora 2. fauna 3. people  etc.  would be too hard to judge on a generality me thinks

so my budgie smuggler outfit would go where Ma

it fits under "flora" (there are flowers on my bathers)

it would fit under "fauna" (I swear there are things living in there

"people" is self explanatory (the boys would be most upset if I excluded them)

"etc" is a hard one (I guess that would explain the "crusty bits")

but yes you are quite right there would have to be categories otherwise it will get very unwieldy,

are you going to run it past our webmistress Gary,

he who asks "shall recieve"

I like the idea of the photos, and categorising is even better.
The members could then lodge their votes, and the one with the most votes is the winner.
If the webmistress deems fit, we may even get a prize for each category, or for the ultimate monthly photo through all categories.
There are some among us who may be professional or semi-pro with big cameras, but maybe that's the challenge for the novices.
A new topic would have to be set up. Let's get it happening.

sunsets, sunrises, wild life, old buildings, road side signs, etc
Ma you pick first month topic the subsequent winners pick the next months.
No prizes required we just get to see some great pictures.
Cindy may need to set up a poll functionality.

OK then for December let's say coastal scenes.   Of course I would pick this, it's where I live.   If that's not OK with the majority let me know and I'll pick something else.

One stipulation if that's acceptable.........IT MUST BE YOUR OWN PHOTO.   Not something you have scavenged off the net.

Now all we need is the possie in which to lodge our photos.  I'll leave that up to the powers that be or anyone else that is computer savvy.

You are quite right Dave. It just needed to be raised so that everyone feels comfortable sharing their lovely holiday snaps with all of us, no matter how big or small the camera is.
After all, if we all lodge our votes it's a really open field.

I have posted a message on Cindy's whiteboard to see if we can get this off the ground.

geez.
One week away and i'm two weeks behind on the posts.
Great idea!! now i will have to learn how to post a piccy.
How many entries per member? and any limit on age of the photo? Aust. only?
Doesn't the other forum run it as a "where is it" comp. or is that a different one again?

Johnw

well, seeing as how this forum is primarily about this great country of ours, how about we keep it to Australian pictures only.   There is so much here in our own great land why bring in the foreign element.

Perhaps it might be a good idea to have the piccys no more than two years old maybe, what do the rest of you think?

Shouldn't think there would be a limit on how many piccs per member, but then again some of us are made keen when we get behind the lens of a camera, so how about three per member?

It's over to you people, what do you think?

All great ideas Ma, and maybe limit to 2 per month per category to let everyone get a go.
There will be other months.
If we're on the road we'll be adding to our collection anyway.
Perhaps even in the past 12 months only. It will build momentum and support as it goes along.
Categories could be sunrises, sunsets, coast, inland, storms & cloud formations, aerial, animals, fishing, boating including reef, flowers wild and garden. Maybe a novelty section for parties, silly hats, fancy dress, and anything else you can submit.
Any more ideas?

Count me in. Don't have many really good photos but love looking at all the others. Will have to keep this in mind next time we go away. Great idea.
