Hi all .. The main fire south of Bathurst was centred around a well known free camping area we know as " Macquarie Woods" I frequently use it as a stopover as its quite a lovely spot ..
A question here .. has anyone heard whether or not "Macquarie Woods" was actually included as part of the fire damaged area ? ..
I will provide an update of the area .. hopefully in a few weeks time.
Hello Jon.The RFS have issued another serious bush fire alarm, although conditions have eased it is still crook. Two farmers recieved serious burns yesterday whilst fighting fires on their properties. The Police are on the look out for arsonists who they suspect may have litfires in the area.No news about Macquarrie Woods as yet.Hope this helps .Cheers.Ibbo.
All good here thanks Terry .. I hope to be heading north of Sydney after Christmas too .. still unsure of dates or distance as I may be heading back this way to head over to the west after that ..
Yep Dave .. will catch up with you tomorrow (pm) .. Had a look at that site earlier too but its not too detailed .. as you could understand .. quite possibly I'll be heading through there in a few weeks and will find out for myself then !
Ibbo .. even stopping there about 10 days ago, the place was tinder dry and when speaking with new Forrestry Caretaker for that section, he was quite concerned as to whether the Macquarie Woods area would escape from bushfire this season .. Unfortunately, arson is almost the first line of consideration in all states these days. Quite a few have been caught but I'd like to see a greater spread of that information passed around Oz .. still too many ignoring the seriousness !
I just had a scary thought...what if you were actually camped there when the bushfire came? Or in any bush camp. I've found that our radio doesnt always have reception. eg we didnt know about the Victorian fires for a few days as no reception near Tathra where we were camped on that week. (as you do, go to the coast as it was b... hot!
Can anybody recommend a radio capable of picking up a signal in remote or areas?
Rosey I can only say go to Dick Smiths or Tandy and state just what you are looking for .I have always found them to be helpfulNo doubt others more learned than I will be able to offer something more concrete.I have a Sony Transistor that so far has never let me down reception wise.Cheers.Ibbo.
Hi Jon The injured farmers were on their properties at Vittoria, which is where the turn off to Macquarie Woods is. I beleive these are now all under control, but arsonists are suspected (bast...ds). Will keep you informed as i get info from my contacts in that area. Might see you around xmas, if your around this area?. Take it easy and stay safe.

How quick things can change!!! Last report at 11.46 The Mitchell Hwy between Bathurst and Orange is now closed. Residents at the Inn at Vittoria have been been relocated.
Anyone in that area take care!!!

High temps at the moment aren't going to improve the situation too much .. thats for sure.
Good to hear from you JW .. hows the missus ? .. (hehe .. I mean Anne) Yes, I'll be about but will let you know later of my timings ..
Pedders are doing some suspension work for me also .. but dates are not yet known !
.. and yes .. I had heard this morning that the road was closed .. I might have to go back via Broken Hill yet .. we'll see ..
Rosey .. What Dave said is good .. even if you pick up the ABC from a different area, they still broadcast regular reports on most major danger spots wherever they might be .. and a CB is good for local content ..
Jonathan are you using wireless internet if so how is it going and who is your isp
Hi Terry ..
Yes .. up and running just fine .. Mind you, I've chosen to use Bigpond because of the coverage .. so I gotta pay for it ..
I Installed an external (Marine) antenna which feeds through to a Bigpond 7.2 Gateway .. which in turn allows me (via RF) use of the lappy anywhere in and around the MH.
Only on rare occasions do I actually need to raise the external antenna to achieve extra gain .. so its usually stays in a lying down position ..
.. works for me Terry !
Have criticised Bigpond/Telstra often in the past, but this time I've been quite satisfied so far and I hope it stays that way.
Thanks Jonathan yes i am am using bigpond wireless for the same reason, at caravan and motorhome show in Brisbane a chap from telstra country gave a talk on using antenna on all caravans and motorhome he said antenna are a must, thats great it all working out for you being able to go on to the net can help to keep you informed on all sort of things keep up the good work somebody got to do it
I arrived back at " Macquarie Woods" near Bathurst ..
This free capsite escaped virtually untouched by the fires here .. some pines at the end of one block were affected, but the rest is just fine .. mind you, a drop of rain would do wonders .. !
Park users were evacuated .. and its only starting to get usw again now ..
