We have just spent three days at this Big 4 Caravan Park. Was very disappointed with the standard of the amenities and security was also useless! There were three amenities blocks and all of them were in desperate need of renovation. Paint peeling off walls, on one particular day vomit was left on a toilet seat from 8am to 3pm before someone cleaned it, the showers in the male amenities were useless with taps continuosly running and some showerheads missing altogether. Being near the public walkway along the waterfront was lovely but it allowed undesirables to wander through the caravan park and help themselves to any belongings that were not secured. A security mobile no. was offered on entry but when our neighbours tried to phone to advise of a group of thieves they observed going through annexes all they got at 2.30am was an answering service. Not good enough for a Big 4 Caravan Park. Up until this experience we always felt confident that the standard of the Big 4 parks could be relied upon with no need to check facilities before booking in! Not so sure now! On checking out we were not the only ones in the office expressing our disgust at the standard of the park. While not blaming the poor receptionist who had to listen to us, clearly by her reaction, she had heard it all before. Apparently refurbishment of the amenities is planned but with three amenities blocks why leave it until all of them are disgusting before considering renovation? Also, speaking to another caravanner I was informed that only one washing machine was in working order to cater to the needs of over 300 sites!
Stevo, I would hope that you have made the appropriate complaint to the Big 4 Head Honchos. I am sure they wouldn't want their "brand" on a park such as this.

I live here in Port and at times I've put my van down there over short breaks for the kids to use . This refurbishment program is only rivaled by the building to the great wall, I was told the same thing years back back when the leases was resigned with the government of the day.
Management seem far more interested in building self contained cabins than looking after their bread and butter people like us . They rely on their position close to town to suck the patrons in
If your coming again try the one at LightHouse Beach short walk to a 7 mile beach and a small shopping center in Watonga Street park has shade and good facilities, backs onto a golf course if you play .
Security is always going to be a problem regardless of where you stay unfortunately it's the times will live in and the courts that administer the system if the offenders are caught. More than likely that security number was connected to a call center in Bathurst , the Council office one is , last I called it the person on the other end couldn't figure out where port Macquarie was and asked me to call their Brisbane regional number. Gave up and called the local fuzz 200 mts down the road
Sorry you had a crap time here better luck next time

Thanks for all your support on our comments. We are going to send a complaint to the Big 4 Group as this reflects on all parks within the group which, as I've said, with the exception of this park, we have been pleased with the Big 4 standard. We loved Port Macquarie as a tourist destination and enjoyed all the beautiful beaches and attractions. Thank you, Wombat for your advice when we return to your beautiful region again. We had a feeling that we were being fed a storyline with regards to renovations! Obviously the owners don't care about return business but with the advantage of websites such as this getting the word around, they may in time find their business being affected.
We used Big 4 on our travels up through the Cente to Darwin and then down the west coast and found them in the main a good place to put the bum down, but im sure there has to be some crookies aye. I think the worst was at Coober Pedy and that wasent to bad, there again if had been a posh joint it wouldnt suit C/P would it lol
We know this parks location well , its a prime spot but is so close to the main town you get all the uninvited passing through .
We often walk along the wall when we are over there for the day ,A very nice spot for a stroll.
As for the problems , report it to the big 4 head office as we have done this before with the one at Moama . They did at least reply ,as to whether any thing happens is any ones guess .
Its hard to beleive that a park in a tourist town like this one & the location can get away with this sort of thing .May be worth a word to the info centre & council .
The numbers we see in this park there must be a lot of cheesed off travellers .

We made similar adverse comments in writing to both the Sundowner and Big 4 after a stay in January. No response whatever from Sundowner. Big 4 said they would look into it. We asked to be informed of the results. No response 6 months later.
