G'day folks, putting keyboard to screen to introduce myself as a nervous newbie.
My wife, Carol and myself are about to retire (although being self-employed it may never happen). Since I only have a Magna Wagon, I've bought an easy to tow 25 year old Viscount AeroLite (you can stop laughing now) that has had the metal framework upgraded. We have done one 3 night and one 8 night trip and enjoying it immensely. The van tows like a dream but we will upgrade car and van as things progress.
Been following this forum for a while now and like what I read, good advice from experienced nomads, plenty of laughter and friendliness.
Thinking of making Mudgee in May - maybe see you there.

Hi Andy and Carol and welcome to the forum.


I am also fairly new to this but so far I have had nothing but good advice and some great laughs from the members here.

We packed it all in and hit the road at the end of October and have enjoyed ourselves traveling around Victoria and New South Wales, Trevor is a saw sharpener and is working as we go, and so far the sharpening has covered all our fuel,accommodation and most of our food costs.

We have a 1991 Toyota Coaster bus that was converted into a motorhome in late 2007 and we are towing Trevor's specially built trailer with all his sharpening gear in.

Catch you on the road somewhere,sometime,

Hey, that van looks in great condition,why would anyone laugh? you are out there doing it.
Probably about 1000 forum members that would swap whatever they have, with you.

G'day Andy,
Nothing wrong with a 25 year old Viscount Aerolite, had one myself some years back and for it's size, mine 14 feet, it had heaps of room and as long as one took it easy on any rough surfaces was fine. 

We took ours from Perth to Adelaide and then up the middle to Darwin and most points in between and back down the WA coast to Perth, Van never missed a beat in just over 10,000 klm's.

Oh!!!!!! by the way welcome to the forum, I am sure you will find all you are looking for information wise here.

I can't speak for the other nomads, but I get quite excited when a Newbie adds themselves to the forum.
It means someone else wants to investigate this lifestyle. Test the freedom.

  Wendy and I have a 86 viscount ultralight which we did a great 4 month trip in, it is now sitting on the lawn with the 4 sale sign sob.
We tow with a VY Holden which i must admit goes through back tyres a bit when towing, but it tows like a dream.
 We have moved on to a Monarch Crusader (1100 kg, viscount 1000kg)17 footer, but I bet i dont take the Monarch where i took the Viscount.

G'day Andy, you have what looks like a tj Manga and an aerolite, please tell me what is wrong with that setup, and also tell me what is wrong with the position you are in

as far as I'm concerned you have a perfectly acceptable setup that has and will bring you many years of joy

I keep on saying this, "it doesn't matter what you have to get out there with, just as long as you are out there"

don't fret your retirement too much, just do it, you will never look back! beats the hell out of working!

Hi Andy, nothing wrong with your van, looks just like the one we had for several years. It was our first pop top and I loved it. We only upgraded because hubby was going to take me back to UK for my 50th, but we went to to Maitland show and fell in love with the Jayco. Seemed like a better deal to me than a few weeks visiting old rellies I hadnt seen for several decades.
