There's lots of interesting places to visit once you leave the bitumen.  Lightning Ridge - annual goat racing championships held each Easter; Glengarry Hilton in the opal fields west of Lightning Ridge; then the Darling River Run - town of Tilpa and the Darling River at Tilpa.
