Have just met a couple building 2 architect designed container houses on a bloc in an outer Melbourne suburb. Hope I get to see them finished although they look a bit stark for my liking. They have an excellent eco rating. They can be built very cheaply. Maybe an idea post caravan.

Hi Helen, I think something like this is brilliant as a base for travelling to and from. It is potentially pretty fire proof when folded up as well as vandal proof.
I have been playing with this container idea for about ten years now and I still find it exciting. I love it that they are quick, modular, inexpensive....which means more money for travel etc,....and they havesuch great potenial for emergency housing. I love good design and am a great believer in recycling.
I put it up here cos I love the interior treatment and if I had a caravan....this is the kind of finish I would love...so easy and clean lines! Cheers Denise :)
I know some-one who has converted a Pantech. into a mobile home. Interior is all timber, beautifully done. I think from memory the walls are in sections that screw onto the inside of the unit. It consists of a Kitchen/ Office, Lounge, Bedroom, Shower/Toilet., and a hallway running the full length down one side. I do have photos, but am not sure if the owner would appreciate me posting them, so I'd better not. Just have to say it's a beautifully done home, and I'd be quite happy with an identical one myself, only I have too many books. I'd need another one as well.
Not sure how long Containers are, but this Pantech. is 30ft.
I think this one is probably a 40' container. There's a few sizes and there are also insulated refrigerator containers...these are more expensive but very comfortable.
The pantech sounds excellent! Its probably tall enough to have a mezzanine level or loft ! Denise :)

Not that tall Denise. The owner does want to get a 40ft. one though, to put in a laundry. Cheers, xina.
Hi Helen, had a look at his site...the houses are gorgeous, I love the use of textures and different natural surfaces...rust, timber, etc..I 'd love one! Thanks for sending me that. there were some others I haven't looked at yet ...maybe they have the containers . Cheers....:) Denise
