Hi, We're heading in to Lawn Hill National Park at the end of May. We don't have an off-road van so would like to store it somewhere while we're at the Park for 4 nights. Does anyone have any advice/experience about a safe place to leave it?? thanks Janeene
Hi Janeene, I honestly do not see any problems taking a van into Lawn Hill National Park. The road from Gregory Downs to the camping area is unsealed, but reasonable if you take it carefully. I was there 18 months ago and road works were in progress then. There were many vans heading into Lawn Hill and most were not off road vans. It is bitumen all the way from Mt Isa to Gregory Downs. Best to check, but I would have no hesitation driving in as far as the camping grounds at Lawn Hill, but would not tow a van any further than the campgrounds as it does get aq bit rough from there to the gorge - a distance of about 5 - 6 kms. Cheers.
Hi Janeene, Like Rossco I took my 21ft jayco in to Adels Grove. It is not an off road van.The road in for the first 40ks is looked after by the mine company so look out for mining trucks.Next 40 a bit rougher but if you take your time is ok. Look out for the dips through the creeks. We where ther for 5 days & in that time a lot of black top vans arrived .If you don't want to take your van in there is a camp area at Gregory Downs where some people stay & get others to watch their van plus do the same for others.Like with all outback road just take your time & if time is short don't go. If you go on the cone paddle up the creek don't worry about cost take your time & do both sections.
