Travelling again

Hi all
We are moving off next Monday to leave the sunny west behind and travel to NSW and Queensland. We intend to travel fairly quickly accross the Nullabour as we have done that section before a couple of times, then stay at Port Augusta to stock up before heading to Broken Hill for about a week or so then heading through the western part of NSW & Qld. We intend to travel to Cooktown before heading south.
We are in no hurry and don't usually plan to far ahead but listen to fellow travellers along the track as to sites to visit.
We only have one booking in a caravan park in Cairns as we are meeting one of the daughters and her family there in mid July.
We would appreciate any advise on any places to see we are set up with a Rexton and a Jayco Freedom Outback pop top van and though the set up can do a bit of of track travelling S.W.M.O. does not like it unless we have travelling partners.
If any one is going to be in any of these areas about this time we may be able to meet up.

Are you saying you need adjudicators at every stop of for smoko and lunch?
Can SWMBO read maps?
Well then, what are you waiting for? Or just call onTom or whatever you name your GPS.
That will save a lot of "discussion", and you can both sit back and enjoy the ride. Keep us posted on how the country's looking along the way.
If I waited for tagalong travel mates I'd still be in mmmmm, let me see......... the womb, or is that Broome.
Once you start I'm sure you'll meet people along the way who may do a leg or 2 from point A to point B.
Things don't always work out the way we want them to. Take a punt and just go.
All the best to you, safe and happy travel.

PS. what park have you booked into in Cairns. The way things are going for me, I'll still be here. Maybe we can catch up. smile.gif

If you feel like stopping in Ceduna on your way, Woodpecker, John & I are at the Airport Caravan Park for the next week and will happily put the kettle on (or pull a cork!) and swap stories.

Hi Andrea
We may stop and have a chat on the way through, a lot depends on the time of day we get there. We don't usually stay in Ceduna but we will see how it goes. What bay are you on.

Roy, the Airport CP is on the Eyre Highway, eastern end of Ceduna and south side of the road, not far past the railway crossing. If you're stopping, we are sitting in solitary splendour at the far end from the front, in the 'Free-ranging' 5th-wheeler. The park is not crowded and the sites are not numbered -- it's a very open affair. If you can give us a call before or when you reach Ceduna we can meet you at the 'gate'.

Meanwhile, travel safe --

Andrea

And a very nice park it is too, and very reasonably priced.  We stayed there last year (2009), $22 per night and $20 per night for Oz Park members.

The airport CP has had a change of management has it? Used to be a real bastard in charge. That's why it was empty when all the others were full.

We used to stay at Shelly Beach CP. It is away from the rascals and in a nice quiet spot without passing traffic.

We were there in September 2009 and it was then part of the Oz Parks Group.  The bloke in charge seemed quite a nice sort but we only saw him when we arrived at the park.  The amenities block was clean and tidy with plenty of hot water.

We've found the guy in charge quite easy and pleasant -- runs the place on his own, with a little help in cleaning the cabins, and is generally very laid back. I was told elsewhere that his father used to own it, but I've no idea what he was like.

We were here in April last year ('09), had to stay a couple of weeks for some repairs, and were quite happy to return. What's more, the owner recognised us, too (is that good or bad, I wonder?!). It's dry and dusty, you get an occasional plane overhead and a few gypsum trains, but I've even managed to sleep through those, and as JRH says, the ablutions (and laundry) are clean.

G'day Bucko,

Welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of us.  Darwin is great, I am sure you will enjoy it immensely, we did and we are returning this year for a visit.

Thanks for the welcome, I've been around the block a few times while I was still working, looking forward to seeing it this time with different eyes and taking my time, never in a hurry, I might miss something, can't have that, see you on the road sometime.

Sorry Andrea we came through Ceduna to late to stop as we had made arrangements to get to Poochura and did not stop at Ceduna. But I hope we may be able to catch up at a later date. We are at yunta at present on our way to Broken Hill and will be slowing down on our travells from there on.
