Where do you get your water from

Here goes with another dumb question.

When free camping, where do you get your water from to fill you tanks?  I realise if you are staying in a caravan park, you can top up before you leave, but can't imagine servos will allow you to fill your tanks as you fill up with fuel???

Not far from where I live, there is a water filling station, where the water carriers fill up, or individuals fill their cubes with water - are there connections there that can be used to purchase water?

Hi Dunmowin,
We just make sure that our tanks are full and carry extra water with us you have to really conserve water when you are bush camping Servo's will usually let you fill a container of water up, showering has to be put on hold we just have wash downs and have resorted to baby wipes as well You can usually buy a l0 litre container of water at most servo's for drinking water. hope this helps Helena.

We have a universal tap.  A friend had one and I admired it so he sent me one.  Said he got it from a camping store its brass in the shape of a "+" and with four different size ends.  we usually find a tap in a park or at a boat ramp and, often there is no T piece on the tap, to avoid vandalism.  Well you can just turn the tap on, get your  water and then turn it off again.  Costs about $15 I think.  Hope this helps

Hi Dunmowin,
we always carry our "drinking" water seperate to our tank, where and when possible.
Found that a lot of the water in free camps etc. was either non existent, not drinkable or just plain doubtful.

Thanks all, looks like the 4 way tap handle is the way to go.

We spend almost all our time in free camps and have only ever had one service station refuse us water(0n the Nullabor) we make a point of asking before we fill up with fuel and are a bit careful and taste the water before we put it in either the van tank via filter or one of the 3 20l cans we carry.

If in doubt about the water for drinking, buy one of those containers of water similar to the "Chateau de Cardboard" wine casks at the supermarket and save it for drinking only. If "boiling the billy" for the necessary cuppa, save the remainder of the billy (kettle, jug etc) in a water container. As it's pre-boiled it will have killed all the bugs.

Note that pure water may be a bit strong and will need to be diluted with a good quality single malt whisky. (not too much water though).

I installed an everpure system in our van that filters the water you consume only.
Have a look around this site, there is even a segment on installation.
I installed ours some 8 years ago and have had clean consumable water ever since even though at times we have filled our tanks with somewhat questionable water.

I am no way affilliated with the company only a very satisfied customer.
