Hi Guys, We drove a bedford bus all around good old aussie. quite a few years back.. AND they are not that slow..Did fit a leyland 401 to it and a 6 speed turner gear box..she is a 30 footer..Anyhow thats not what you wanted to hear ..About fridges why get a 3way, they leave a lot to be desired when it gets hot .And in side a bus dose get hot . have a look on Ebay "caravan fridge"there are some nice 12-24 volt compressor fridges there and they come with a nice switch- mode 240 volt pack.. and at a good price..2 door 118 lt $720. posted.. I brought one and they are nice.. I know you need sola to run them.. But in the long run its cheeper , Ive been doing it for 10 years+ now.. and gas is always going up $45.00 for a refill 9kg.in places . sunlight stays at the same price....FREE.. To run a little fridge like that would take 150 Watt. panel min. plus a 120 amp AGM batt. min. the more the better..hope this gives you another look at things.. Good luck Bob

I have a CTek 7 amp battery charger set up in the back of my car that both tops up the charge of the auxiliary (house) battery and runs the fridge (a Bushman, similar to an Engel or Waeco) when "ground" power is available. This removes the need for a separate power supply for 240v operation. I have an idea Engels have the 240v power supply built in, don't know whether this applies to the upright models that you're looking for. There are also some fancy charging systems available that combine the functions of a solar regulator and a "smart' battery charger. Check out http://redarc.com.au/products-and-services/battery-management-system and http://www.ranox.com.au/401.html
I bought my van second hand and it came fitted with the usual 3 way but if going again I would think about a 12v compressor type fridge and solar. I mostly stay on powered sites but occasionally "bush" camp.

PS: I hope you realise my comment about the speed of the Bedford on your other thread was "tongue in cheek"
