The Big 4 in Coober Pedy is pretty good, make sure you book though. Kings Canyon but get there early, you need to pick your own. McDonnell Ranges, another Big 4 was really nice too. Have a great time, wish it was us.

I've stayed at both the Macdonnell Range (Big4) and the G'day Mate, which is just across the road, both several years ago. Both are (were) ok, the GM is smaller and quiter and doesn't have all the kiddie stuff of the Big4. Both are within walking distance of the Heavitree Tavern and in a part of town where the local inhabitants aren't a problem (if you get my drift).
I have also stayed at the "Outback" caravan park in Tennant creek, but it was 10 years ago but was fine then. It's located just east of the town on the Peko road.
Also perhaps Banka Banka between 3 Ways and Renner Springs..check these theads for more info....
stayed in katherine just about three kilometeres out wish i could remember the name of park was a realy nice tidy neat park and friendly, something to do with gum from memory? redgum maybe not quite sure but it was nice and outof town so no noise
Re: Katherine, I've stayed at the "Low Level" (Big4) a few times (but not in the last 5 years) and it's quite nice there. On two of those occasions I did not need power and was camping with a group so getting a site was no problem. As I recall it was just a case of find a spot in a large but well maintained paddock and set up. The last occasion it was outside the tourist season and the park was nearly empty.
They have a bistro and bar beside the pool so no need to go into town to have a reviver or two.
I seem to recall someone here recently recommending another park out of town a little bit. I think it may have been at Springvale Homestead, not sure.
We are at the G'Day Mate Van Park in Alice Springs at the moment. Quite a nice little park and a tad cheaper than the other ones.
The amenities are spotless and the management couldn't be more helpful.
We didn't book and when we got here they were fully booked but said that if we could put up with a night on the roadway (inside the park of course) they would provide the power and water and then move us onto a site in the morning.
Sounded OK to us so that's where we are at the moment.
