Names on the back of Vans

Hi all,  would like to know your opinion of having your names on the back of the van, I don't exactly mean the name of your van eg "thewoodshack", but the first names of the people travelling - guess it maks it a bit more polite if you need to call someone up on the UHF, but would be interested in others point of view.

I reckon it is a good idea, when I finally get a 2 way to put in my vehicle I will put our names and channel number on the back of the van.

I had a plate specially made with DAVE & SHELL on it and we put it on the back of the van.
We find it quite handy when people call us on the CB, instead of Saying something like travellers in Landcruiser they say our names!

A retired truckie told me recently NOT to do it because, as he put it: "The only use for it is that I can call up and abuse you by name."
Cheers, Tony

Then again, as Baldrick may have said to Blackadder:
"Sir, I've got a cunning plan --
Put Kevin and Therese on the back of your van."

Just use your call sign . I have printed on my back window Wombat 280 CH 18 and those calling can ID you straight up . Most truckies are good and will call up when they intend to pass ore is something going wrong at the rear end of your rig .

One call me up to let me know that the poptop had let go one of the securing hinges which I couldn't see in the mirrors , most grateful for that

If you have 2 names printed on the rear of your rig then everyone knows there's 2 traveling,

what if there's only ONE, I wouldn't like to advertise that fact. More especially when parked anywhere.

Wombat 280 could be the name of the rig...so there could be many more than one traveling or

only one who's to know. Which makes it safer.

Cheers
Robyn

Thanks everyone for your comments - a suggestion for 'singles' use the name of the teddie bear that is travelling with you, for us that makes three of us in the van! By the way his name is Crosbie, and he is real cute - a wonderful happy smile.Mind you, hubby has the occasional groan about it, but he looks good in some photos.

We have a Welsh bear named Ianto(pronounced Yantow) that travels with us and he must have his photo taken wherever we are so the 2IC can send photo's back to her rellies and friends in Wales.

when we are travelling we will call anyone with a name on their van as we think that they are inviting us to talk to them. we have our names on the back and the truckies and bus drivers often call to say they are about to "have a look at us" as they prepare to pass. Have not yet been abused.

HI John & Irona,

Oh thank goodness there is someone else as daft as me! I was a tad concerned last night that I had boo-booed about admitting we take my teddie with us. I guess you could say that it is as good as 'the rig' we have - see our avatar!

We have a Moose, not a real one the mess would be frightening. He sits on the pillows and looks after the interior of the van. Actually he is a great converationalist. He agrees with everything I say which is a change from you know who!!!!! Apart from that we are about to get our sticker done for the rear of the van. Thanks to everyone for the input in this thread it has helped me make up my mind.

Terry.

That wouldn't really work for us, as our bear is just called Bear, and that might give the game away. He's a well travelled bear, came originally from Singapore when we were living there, and has since lived in NZ, Holland and Ireland, now he gets to travel all around Australia with us.

Hey Pejay that rig of yours looks damned good, mine is a 1993 EB Falcon Wagon and a 15 foot 1985 Jayco Songbird Poptop and as for the teddy bear well we wouldn't be without him, you would be surprised the number of people who stop and say something about us taking his photo.
