BEST WAY UP TO GOLD COAST.

smile WE ARE HEADING UP TO THE CAPRICORN COAST AS FROM THIS SUNDAY FOR NINE WEEKS AND STOPPING OFF AT KIRRA FOR A WEEK FIRST. WE USUALLY TRAVEL FROM MELBOURNE UP THE HUME THROUGH DUBBO BUT THEN HAVE TO CUT ACROSS THROUGH THE GAP AFTER WARICK. IS THERE AN EASIER GOOD ROAD TO GET OVER TO THE COAST BEFORE WARICK? ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED. THANKS ROBYN.

I think that's probably as good a way as any.....click on this Google Map link.

Alternatives are from Moree via Grafton or via Tenterfield, both ok roads

PS: also via Beaudesert

smile Hi thanks very much jimricho. Just trying to avoid the mountains with our 21ft Regal as last time our brakes were burning on the down hill run and thats even with the electric brakes, Cheers Robyn.

Maybe Grafton would be the best option then,  there is one major descent at Gibralter Range about mid way between Glen and Grafton, it drops about 900 metres (3000 feet in medieval measurements) over about 18 ks.  As I recall there are two lookouts where you can pull off to rest the brakes.  Use low gear (automatics too) and take it steady.  The rest is no problem.  Much less traffic than Cunninghams Gap.  Whichever way you go you're going to get a descent off the New England plateau.

If you decide to overnight in Inverell I can recommend the Inverell Caravan Park, it's the one closest to the town centre.

PS: Maybe you need to adjust the van's brakes for the descent,  I'll leave that one for further comment by those more expert in trailer brakes than I.
