what are the euro style vans like on aussie roads, just looking at updating our old van for a trip next year. We have towed the old millard on some rough roads and it holds together with no problems but I dont look foward to living full time in it for 8 to 10 months, has all the creature comforts like shower/ casette toilet, set up for free camping etc but is very dated. Looking at a few of the euro style ones they seem well kit for dollars spent with the creature comforts we like. Have heard they wont stand up to aussie condition, but why. cheers blaze
The main problems you will have is that they are too low to the ground. Going in and out of national parks you are likely to ground the body when crossing drains and creeks. Apart from that you should have little problems if you drive according to the road conditions.

My observations have been that that comment also applies to some locally made models too. I've often seen and heard the rear of vans scraping across the ground just getting onto a caravan park site, also driveway entrances to servos. A neighbour of mine had to get his (locally made) van raised for that very reason.

We bought our van from Cobram Caravans, and they routinely raise all vans they sell by (I think) 2 inches for precisely that reason. We have had no problems with the van bottoming out in 12 months of travel.
Our previous van was an adria, while comfortable to live in was not really suited to what we wanted to do. After saying that we took it into someplaces we shouldn't have with no real drama. if anyone intends sticking to the blacktop I would have no hesitation in recommending.
