On the Big Lap - now at Inverell and heading out tomorrow (Tuesday). Enjoyed Inverell with its pleasant overnight temperatures of minus 5, minus 2 etc. We had no luck at finding sapphires although Bert in the next van found one that he estimates is worth a few hundred.
We had a good look round the old mining town of Tingha and, while there, said hello to my great great grandma (died 1899).
From here it's north in QLD via Texas - then towards the Sunshine Coast for a sanity beak before heading inland again. Our stop tomorrow night is at Karara, between Inglewood and Warwick. My old mate Bert next door tells me that if we ring the local showground's caretaker ahead of time, she will open the showground gates for us to stay overnight - power, hot showers etc - for about $5 or so.
Watch this space for further reports.
