I am looking to buy a campervan, something about the size of a Toyota Hiace. There's nothing here in Echuca where I live and know I will have to go to either Bendigo or Geelong to see whats available. Anyone here got any ideas on where to start or have you seen any around worth looking at. Looking to spend between $10,000 and $20,000. Thanks in advance.
I suggest you find something suitable on the internet first. The CMCA site might have something..... http://www.cmca.net.au/pages/members_market/index.php Keep a watch out here...there are other sites also.
Thanks Peter, I have been through the CMCA site, nothing at all in that size at the moment. Am watching a few on Ebay but won't bid without inspection first. Am off to buy the Trading Post and a Campervans book from the news agent, thats the next step. I haven't seen anything on this site for sale but will keep looking.

I live in North Coast and 'my' van was in Sydney. I called a friend and asked him to go have a look for me. After that I asked the owner whether he would take it to a garage [nominated and paid for by me via my friend] for an examination. The garage said it was okay.
We had a number of phone calls, sent some photos, and the next step was final inspection and exchange. This took just 30 minutes.
I have had no cause to regret the decision.
The reason I am telling you all this is that if you find one a bit further afield, maybe you can make a call here and get a member in that area to help you out.
i just had a look on www.carpoint.com and there are about three on there.... damm forgot to see what state they were in lol anyhow its a starting point. when i was looking for my rodeo i got up at 5 every morning for 6 months - but in the end i got what i wanted at the price i wanted.... cheers

Have you had look on gumtree for van as welll ..seen few good and bad one on there lol ... but worth a look anyway .....also have you thought of second hand wicked camper or something like that al least they SHOULD be servied u would think anyway
gee .thanks for that ... i was actully thinking about one off there van few months ago but i have decided a caravan will be better for me ...i love this site there is some much information on here for us newbies
I have no hard evidence to back this up but I can't help but feel that it would be a brave person who'd buy a second hand Wicked.
A quick look at a Wicked Camper would suggest that they get the type of vehicles that the OP is looking at. Why would he then purchase that vehicle after it has been flogged to death?

I wouldn't touch a Wicked van lilly. I also heard about the recall some time back. Will put it on hold for now as have been given some housesitting up in Qld to tide me over for a few weeks. Will start looking again when I get back home.
Exactly right PeterD, I would want one before not after they have their hands on it. By the way he is a she!! I'm like you lilly a newby starting out, will take up the housesitting for now and that will give me more time to find the right van without making any bad mistakes by rushing into buying. There is so much great info coming from you guys on here, I have learnt so much already.

Wicked has lifted its game in recent months, after many of their vehicles failed the road worthy test. I think they probably leave the yard ok, but the drivers appear a bit dodgy. I bought my van on eBay, sight unseen, other than the photo in the ad. It was the size and layout, and ultimately the "right" price. I've not regretted my gamble. I closed my eBay account as soon as things were finalised, and I haven't been on eBay since. It's a matter of timing for camper vans it seems. They don't last very long if it's a good one. They are usually traded in for motor homes - upsizing. Good luck with you hunt for the van of your preference. It's a good life.

My girlfriend has just upsized from a Ford Econovan camper to a Ford Transit, cab-over motor home. It was a former Kea rental, 2 years old. She had it checked and it seems ok. She was very excited about picking up late last week in Brissy. She did a big check around Melbourne at one stage during her hunt. Maybe some of the other rental mobs have better pickings than Wicked, Jucy, Cheapa and a few of those budget mobs. Just take your time, and you'll find the one that suits you when you least expect it. Have a look around while you're in Qld.
