Heading off Thursday

I am heading off this Thursday 8/7/2010 Via the Newell H/w   Haven't been on it for twenty years or more....My old truck run to Brisbane.....I reckon it 's changed a lot in that time......I am leaving after a game of Bowls around 3.45pm..Will drive until I feel tired and then pull over and have a sleep.....Don't know  where I'll end up.....Definitely going to stay at Parkes for a day then look at the observatory......Then will look for a Caravan park to recharge the batteries.....Further up the track..Maybe Gundgi.Any good Parks there abouts......My wife and dogs will be flying up later P/u Brisbane  Airport in a week

Good luck with your trip up the Newell. I go up and back every year in my car and love the drive. Heading up again in Aug.
I usually make Parkes on the 1st day and Goondi on the 2nd then destination on the 3rd. Just don't park for the night in the Pillaga, but being a truckie you will know the legend.

Big Sky CP in Narrabri is right in town and only a block away from the RSL that has a reasonable restaurant.  Have friends who have stayed at Mehi River CP in Moree and said it's ok. They intend staying there again later this month.  It's located east of the downtown on the road out to Warialda.

Haven't stayed at Goondi but there is a Top Tourist (I think it's a TT) just off the Leichhardt Hwy on the NW side of the town, is also on the the way out to Toowoomba (Gore Hwy).

If heading north to Rockhampton there's an unusual cp 20ks north of Miles, Possum Park. I'll be overnighting there myself either next Mon or Tues.

Travelling by car only for now and always ending up in Goondi on my 2nd night I always end up paying about 100.00 for one night in a cabin. Does anyone know of somewhere there cheaper, even a hotel would do.
I've been told I can get a room in Parkes for 30.00 a night, The Broadway in the main street.
Something similiar in goondi would be great.

I don't thnk you would be able to stay overnight in the carpark. I was there last August. Its not very big and I can't imagine you being given permission to stay over night, but I coulod be wrong. Just go and give it a try. They can only say no and you find a park down the road somewhere.

Hey Jimbo (Welcome) I know of two CPs in Goondi, cant remember names though. Make sure you DONT choose the one that is between the railway line and the highway - need I say more. The one that we stayed happily at had a sort of billabong down the back, was much quieter than the first, from memory, we had travelled in from St George, so it would have been on the western approach.

Both of these visits were well before we started thinking about GNing - sorry dont have cp names, but this might help
