NEW FREE CAMP SITE & TRAVEL BASE OR RETREAT FOR GREY NOMADS
700 acres of natural bushland with permanent billabongs & lots of cypress pine at Chinchilla Qld.
Suitable for self contained vehicles only as there are no facilities at present, but tank water is available & abundant firewood. Satellite broadband & mobile telephone coverage on site & a small solar power set-up is used to run the camp which is 15klms from town.
Chinchilla is abuzz with coal-seam gas & coal mine developments which are creating lots of business opportunities & employment.
It is a nice quiet place with lots of wildlife & potential to establish a Grey Nomad retreat or base.
Owner is a Grey Nomad who has retired & dropped out of the city ratrace & uses the property as a base from which to travel. You are welcome to join the drop-out for as long as you like, & for those who have taken the plunge & sold up their real estate, it may be a place of permanent retreat from your travelling adventures. Solo travellers especially welcome.
There is an opportunity to join in the development of the property for this purpose if anyone is interested. (A few red grape vines wouldn't go astray or a vegie patch!!)
Sounds great Dougie will be up your way later on in year .. trying to get in few short trips before i head out on big one ....will keep your camp in my lists
What a great offer Dougie, We are not able to travel yet - still witing forour van to arrive - but once on the road we may take you up on your offer. Any good fishing in those billabongs???? Barb

Just keep in mind that I travel too, so will post when I'm not here, but don't let that stop anyone from coming, just email me & I will give directions. The basics are here, tools, chain-saw, shovels etc. even an old tractor in case it rains 5" or so as it did early this year, & was impossible, but hey, that doesn't happen too often, so don't let that stop you!! I know there's yellow-belly & yabbies in some of the billabongs, but what quantities I'm not sure of, but the cormorants hang around, so that's a sign.
Ask Ma and Bluey and they will tell you that this is the best place they have stayed in since leaving home last April.
It is so good infact, that provided Doug doesn't get sick of us we might stay here for another week.
There are definitely yabbies in the billabongs and we had enough for mid morning snack yesterday and we now have enough for a nibble at Happy Hour this afternoon.
The tranquility is very adictive too and if you need a shopping fix or a people fix it's only 15ks into town. It's a smallish town but has absolutely everthing that you could want.
Dougie's Place certainly IS still on offer everyone.
For directions that will be easier to follow than mine just call into the Visitor Information Centre at Chinchilla - it's right on the highway - and they will give you directions and all the help you need.
Just one thing to remember; YOU MUST BE FULLY SELF CONTAINED.
This means water, power, toilet and shower.
I believe that you can fill your water tanks at the Visitor Centre as well.
We are actually on our way there as I post this. Should be there on Friday afternoon and I can't wait.
