Well, we set off with the Jayco in tow from Cairns last Thursday heading here to Coolum re eldest daughter's pending delivery of grandchild. Around Ingham a clown in a hire move it van thought that overtaking on double lines was a fair prospect, much to our alarm and concern for the guy coming the other way in a cruiser who no doubt had to change his underpants as soon as he found somewhere to stop.
We stopped in at Bluewater Creek freebee about forty klicks later to rest our nerves with a few ales and some sleep.
Next day outside of Sarina a P plater in an old Datsun ute also thought it was fair game to overtake on double lines. Trouble is this time he was coming towards us!
The P plater got almost up beside the car he was overtaking before realising that perhaps he couldn't get around him before plowing into us after all. He then proceeded to lock up his brakes, almost sliding into the car he was overtaking. He then looked like he was going to overcorrect and come across our bows. Fortunately he missed us all and went past with a sheepish grin and to the sound of numerous horns.
Our nerves held out to Marlbourough where we opted for a powered site and some more ales.
On Saturday afternoon as we were coming into Childers a Double B didn't allow enough space to overtake and cut in a bit early resulting in me having to brake substantially to avoid being squished against the culvert.
Moral of the story? I think they are out to get me.
Afterthought: If things happen in threes perhaps I am good to go from here on in.
Having a nice rest in Coolum right now. Driving home next Monday.
Dont understand it you know! I dont drive too slow with the van and I dont wear a bowls hat whilst driving or anything like that. Why me??
Perhaps I need to wear an alfoil beenie. That might work??
Gee Ian .. what do you do for excitement ? .. maybe an afternoon with lawn bowls could be quite a challenge .. hehe ! Seriously though .. I do enjoy the lawn bowls when I can .. BUT .. no hat sits in the back window. Your trip home should be interesting ..
Unfortunately we can't drive th other vehicle as well - you must have had your bowls hat on your back window (lmao) . Mate , I am a Vietnam Vet , it seems paradoxical , I was safer going to V'nam , than what it was to be an Aussie serviceman on Australian roads - that's no B-S , you can check th stats . So if I am going to see you "up the track" somewhere PLEASE Drive Safely
Well Ian and Pauline, you've just simply confirmed what I suspected since driving in Qld. 1. It's compulsory to overtake on double white lines. It's more challenging around a bend. 2. The overtaking lanes aren't long enough to let anyone overtake. 3. You and I are the only drivers who know what they're doing and are smart enough to allow for the other bastards stupidity.
Keep up the defensive driving and you'll be ok. You have to watch behind and alongside to avoid being the meat in someone else's automobile sandwich. It's a circus out there. Safe trip home to Cairns.

Thats right Foxie and Granny! I would have liked to have reported that it was damm Mexicans, ****roaches or Crow Eaters who were trying to run me off my Queensland roads but alas, it was locals all along!!
on our recent trip up to seaforth, just north of mackay, had two incidents of oncoming traffic passing over double lines. we took the inland route back - it was a much more pleasant trip. and i think clazandaza hit it on the nose - its locals.
