Well after 5 weeks and 5,000 kms we sadly are back home with both the 4wd and van parked up for a while, 'til the Lord & Master retires at the end of the year. However, have to say that waiting nearly 15 years to do this trip, we throughly enjoyed our trek around the Qld block first heading up the coast to Tsv , then across to Mt Isa, down to Winton, Longreach etc before wending our way down to Charleville and finally across east back to Brisbane.
We (thankfully in one way) had booked our caravan parks as we were on a time limit, but we came across quite a number of what we guess would be freeby places that we shall certainly check out next time around. Could not fault anything anywhere, 'cept maybe one, and to be honest I am reticent to do that but having talked with quite a number of ladies at the caravan park in Charleville and finding they felt the same as me, I have to say I was disappointed with the reception I got from the owner of Tambo Teddies, she could not be bothered getting out of her chair to basically chat with you, let alone even lifting her head!! I know that Tambo Teddies was set up to 'rescue' the wool trade out that way, and I believe it has gone a long way to do that, but felt that this women just might single handedly destroy (?) the livelyhood of the Tambo region with her attitude - it almost seemed she had about 6 lemons for breakfast!! And as I say I was not the only one to think this - one lady at the c/pk said she walked in prepared to buy 3 or 4 bears (and as we all know they are not cheap) and walked out again without spending a cent!
Other than that, the only regret is that we had to come home for 'im to return to work for a little while longer - both of us just wanted to keep travelling - oh well, it won't happen overnight, but IT WILL HAPPEN SOON!!!!!
'Til next we see you on the road, safe travelling everyone,
Pete & June

June we had the same experience 2 years ago we walk in the women did look at us we were there for 10 min and walked out with out her saying anything or even looking at us , We went next door to the cafe she was very friendly lady made us a Tambo chino without those fancy machine what a experience so it not Tambo I think making all those teddies must do something to you maybe to much wool
Similar case, don't go into Cooktown RSL either. Most unfriendly elderly female I have ever met. When asked where to park o/nite, the comment was - "no where around here because I will let Council know". The service & attitude in the club meant only 1 beer was had & up to the local where I voiced my concerns & the comment there was -"Oh thats ------, she's like that to everyone, even those who live here." Why have people like this in these jobs. Are they short of staff or just don't care about the tourist dollar??
Yep Dougie, had something similar to you at Townsville RSL some years ago, with hubby wanting to buy a carton only to be told they don't sell to non-members!! Now here comes the crunch bit - hubby is a Vietnam Vet, a member of our local RSL, and we should have (?) reciprocal rights to ALL RSL's!!! We left without even buying a single drink - it was Chrsitmas Eve, bloomin' hot, as only Tsv can be at that time of year, and we had been on the road for a day and a half from Brisbane (no van at that stage).
