We are currently in Lajamau NT until 22/10/2010 and wish to travel to Halls Creek and Broome after that.
I would prefer to save some distance, time and money by travelling direct along the Buntine to Halls Creek. We have a Ford Transit Motor Home with a Vitara in tow and would appreciate any road condition reports over the coming months to allow me to assess if the trip would be ok.
A posting on the forum or an email direct to paul.ch@bigpond.com would be appreciated.
Hi Paul, we passed the start of the Buntine Highway (off of the Victoria Highway, N/T) a couple of weeks ago and there was a sign that said road works for 365km on the Buntine Highway. They had diggers and all sorts at the start of the road so not sure how long the works will take to complete. Best to check as per the post from William the Third.
I have checked out the website and loaded as a favourire and will continue to monitor prior to our departure.
I will also check with local police and any other locals that may travel that way in the next two months.
Some initial reports are that I may have some difficulty with the motor home in some of the dips and it may ground getting in and out of river crossings, not so much with water but angle of descent and ascent. Can anyone confirm this or otherwise,
G'day Paul, It's a couple of years now since i was on that road and i had a t/van with heaps of clearance. Just slow to a crawl and low gear and you will be ok.
I have found that most vehicles will go anywhere when driven in the right manner and with the right frame of mind....that said some just dont go some places either.
Local conditions and local knowledge are the guidiong factor for me in every decision regarding the travelability of country roads and tracks, the coppers are usually a great source of info as are the ambo's etc...
I suppose it is a tad like the phrase;
You can please some of the people someof the time but not all of them all of the time.
Just my humble opinion anyways for what its worth.
Hoo Roo Happy Days Grumps.
