1770/Agnes Water

For me 1770/Agnes Water is a great little stop down by the Beach at Workmans Beach $5.50 per night.......Access to Computer and only a Clike from the town.

Been on the road for six weeks now,and am having a good time...Love these freebies........But am spending heaps of money else where.....I do find that Caravan Parks are  way to expensive...Expecially in and around the Coast.....Airlie Beach and Bowen..$28.00 for an unpowered site.....I thought Ned was Dead......Councils need to have a look at there practices......Listening to a Female spokeswomen for the Capricornian Tourist Mob says on the ABC that Grey Nomads should not expect a free Lunch.....And that it is only a small number want  free camping....How out of touch is she......

I didn't hear that broadcast Welcome but I agree that she is WAAAAAY out of touch.

Would like to hear her views when or IF she ever has to survive on the pension.  Bet they would change real quick.

As for wanting a "free lunch" she doesn't stop to think that whilst we may favour free camping when possible we do spend a heap of $$ in the towns we pass through. There is always food and fuel not to mention other commodities that are part and parcel of our existence.

She also looses site of the fact that the greater majority of us nomads have worked long and hard and paid our taxes so why shouldn't we be able to enjoy the benefits of such.

Off soap box now.

I think there are more and more of us doing just that Welcome and why wouldn't you.   The people out in the back blocks are a lot more friendly and welcoming and value our input to their local economy.

Give me the outback any day.   The people on the coast (well, not all of them admittedly) seem to feel they own the place and don't like the intrusion.

I can identify with that to a point.  I know down in Ulladulla where I come from the Christmas and Easter holiday periods are absolute bedlam but most of the trouble is caused by the younger tourists (teenagers who tag along with Mum and Dad) but we also realise that these people do spend a lot of money in our town so we put up with their arrogance and disrespect.

Hi Guys, we stopped going to Queensland a long time back for just that reason.. And found out that the other parts of good old Oz can be and are better, with out the danger of haveing to travel THAT little highway.. And other places around Oz dont have all them DONT signs.. Queensland coastal councils have this thing , we have all this, if you want to look or stay you pay big time. Its a no brainer, dont go... We used to go each year. each year it got worse..
Try the west coast. and the fishing is better as well.. So is the free camping... And the roads great.. See you there this coming winter .. The trip across the nulla is a adventure on its own, all with free camping.. BobnBev

Hi jimbo... have been looking for some info on Workman's Beach. Last info I had was that it was not suitable for caravans. As we all know this info is not always correct. Would I be reasonably able to get a 14ft van in there pulling it with a 4x4 rodeo diesel? From what you are saying I would assume that I can. Would like though, your confirmation before I turn up there. Any other info on Workman's beach would also be appreciated. Water Availability etc. Cheers Pete

Quite agree - I dont mind at all spending the money.   We have a budget for our trips and we spend the lot of it.   All we want to do is take as long as possible to spend it lol.   And if this means not spending 30 - 40 per night for a camp site so be it.   The small towns and villages will still get our pension money, the butcher the baker the servo etc, I, and I am sure most here dont begrudge them the money, but lets just eke it out a bit longer... not unreasonable to my way of thinking.  Off topic... off soapbox lol

Hi,, we were at Workman's Beach about a month ago, we had no trouble getting our 20 ft van in,  but we did walk in first, and checked the availability of sites,  as there are lots of trees, there is a tap for water, and only composting toilets,   It was a lovely quiet camp and beautiful  beach,  Cheers Lyn

Have no fear Petengail...The Council ( Bless them) have cut  the low hanging tree's...You can easikly get in there now.....It cost $5.50 Per prson...At this moment I am in Bunderburg Coancil Caravan Park at $ 23 per night with Power Not bad needed to charge Batteries..........I make an effort to get into Councils when ever I can to voice my Disapprove with their actions.

I also like to tell them that I was about  to spend big time in the towns but have decided to move on.......Why don't  the Caravan and Motor home mob stick up for us....They are a big voice  surely

Hi Jimbo, you're making alot of sense to me. I live in the south of the Capricornia region and remember only a few weeks back these same Cap. region development mob saying that they had to do more to attract the G.N.'s and stop them from driving thru but more to stay here, it seems that that idea was a big fail

We stayed at the free park at Tiaro on our way through, it was nice being able to have a nice hot free shower.
Found the locals to be very nice and friendly.
